  • Sharing Library between Macs.... Possibly a silly question...

    Hi

Ive just bought VEP and looking to run it on a slave Mac G5 to go along side my  MAIN Intel Mac....

All my library and authorizations are on my INTEL MAC ( via a firewire 800 stack of HDs).....

What is the easiest and cheapest way to get access to all my library on the slave mac...

I have a extra VSL key..... but cant afford to  go and buy all the library again..///

Sorry if its a dull question, but i dont want to proceed until i get some sound advice

    Cheers

    ROB

  • I´m not a Mac man - but this must be the same on all platforms:

Transfer your VSL licenses to your second VSL key ( using the Licence Control Center ), and stick the new VSL key into your new slave Mac.

Ofcause the libraries themselves will have to be on HD´s on or connected to your new slave Mac.

Hope i have understood your question correctly.

  • Thanks for your answer.... This is what I dreaded may be the case.....

I cant move any of my libraries over to the slave machine, definately not move the licences...

I have 10 years of work that needs to see where the libraries are and where the AUs are...

They wouldnt load if I moved everything.....

I want to use the second Mac more of a OVERFLOW machine, and slowely move over to have acces to some of the libraries on there...

I was hoping that the slave would see that you have the licenses for the AU's or at worst be able to generate a second code onto my spare VSL key..... and also load the  samples over ETHERNET/lan....

Disappointed really as this part is not really explained..... just assumed.

  • I'm afraid that you have no option but to buy new licences for the libraries that you want to run on the slave, if you want to keep the rest of your licenses on the DAW. Obviously your G5 is a severely limited machine, so as you can't load much onto it, you don't have to buy duplicates of all your licences.

However, I think that the situation can't be quite as bad as you think, because 10 years ago there were no Vienna Instruments, or Intel Macs, so it's not anywhere near as much work as you think. In any case you wouldn't be able to load any of your old projects in VE Pro without converting them.

  • Can't you just move some of the licenses to a second key and when you need to open old sessions, just plug both into the main machine?

  • I use Cubase on a PC, and my projects does load with all the VSL instruments with preset names even when the license is not present - the patches are just empty, so of cause no samples and no sound, but it will enable you to redirect each track/instrument to your new VE setup, and then save your project again. In Cubase this is just to set the output per track.

  • Thanks everybody for your replies and suggestions....

I do soooo much work and am always mid albums,tv shows etc...so it would be a right pain , as I have always got to do remixes and new versions of older work and there is loads of it.....

Im just gonna have to have a look into it....Im just tired of buying software and then having to dip again and again in your pocket to get it to do what you want .....

I thought...stick my G5 on my INTEL MAC via ethernet.... buy a second VSL key and download a 2nd licence (like Spectrasonics ,etc ), to the key...copy  the library to the g5...and away you go...the answer to my LOGIC 4 gig ram nightmare !!!!!!!!

    WRONG....

I would just thought as a reward for investing in the VSL library, and buying the rights to use it yourself... that you would be aloud to share it on the SLAVE computer ...especially as that is the whole point of the VEPro... to allow you to spread your library accross 2-3 computers, to ease the ram /cpu burden.......thats why your allowed 2-3 installs of VEP....

Its not as if somebody else is using the library on the 2nd machine ( thats the whole point of 1 license!) ........ its for my use ?

I have obviously got the wrong end of the stick when reading what the software does, and how it works....I just got a bit too over excited and didn't read the small print....THAT WILL TEACH ME !!!!!..... now where is my credit card again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks Mike,

That sounds like a plan..... Just need some lateral thinking....
