• MIR with Cubase - stupid question.

I really can't cause MIR to read MID signal form Cubase 5.5. In MIR manual there is no any normal wxplanation about how to use MIDI host with MIR. As I understand, it is needed to choose virtual MIDI port (in my case - it is LinxTWO-B VirtualMIDI) for OUT of opened MIDI-track in Cubase, and in MIR - the same MIDI-port for IN of some Instrument. I do so - nothing happens - it doesn't want to play a sound.

• Clapaucius,

I assume that you are using Cubase on the same system like MIR ...?

We found that the most convenient way to route MID internally (i.e. virtually) is LoopBe30, a convenient little 3rd-party utility. You can try its smaller brother LoopBe1 for testing - it's free. (Just make sure that you switch OFF (!!!) the so-called MIDI-Loopback-detection - it leads to all kinds of errors and interruptions.)

• Hmm... It is so strange, that so outstanding and extraordinary product like MIR is not equiped with some clear and native mechanism for connecting MIDI sequencer with it; as MIR has not any sequencer built in, it is absolutely useless without one, am I right? So, it is not so normal situation, when people do need some 3d-party utility for that.

• And, by the way - still nothing works, neither with loopBe30, nor with LoopBe1! And what is this MIDI-Loopback-detection, and where can I find it to swich it off?

I understand your point of view - but if you allow for a mediocre comparison: A car manufacturer is not necessarily the supplier of fuel, too. 8-)  VSL is a small company, and we try to concentrate on topics were we have new ideas and/or see some demand from the market. Many tools are available already, people own and use them - so why re-invent the wheel?

If you need a all-in-one workstation to get things done, then MIR may indeed be an absolutely useless product for you.

Kind regards,

Please look at this website: -> http://nerds.de/en/loopbe30.html ... you can see it even on the screenshot they supply on the main page.

Hi Clapausius,

Have you examinated the ports in de LoopedBe30 window? Since it concerns a mute indication your chosen port should be unchecked. It is so simple that it may be overlooked, that's why.

Hopes this helpes maybe, I can't figure out any other reason if out in Cubase and in in MIR are the same.

• Unfortunately, still nothing works. Also, when I have installed LoopBe30, I've got a message: TBIA file is invalid, or something like that, and everytime I start the computer, when win7 is loaded I got this message, but the LoopBe30 port starts, mute are unchecked, in Cubase I see this ports. I open in Cubase some MIDI track, choose for MIDI OUT Ethernet MIDI Port 1. Of couse, I desable audio driver the audio devices. Then I start MIR, add some instrument, and choose the same MIDI Port for it's In. Then I record in Cubase some MIDI notes in this track, and try to play it back. NOTHING! No sound from MIR, no MIDI signal is comming through it. Although when check one my physical MIDI port for VI input (in my case it is MidiSport MIDI interface) it plays! I thought, this is something wrong with MIR, but I tried to load kontakt as a stand-alone application, doing the same procedures with MIDI ports. It doesn't get signal from Cubase also. And I don't thing, that it is a problem of LoopBe30, because it has to work with Virtual MIDI Port, that I have in my AudioCard driver (LynxTwo) What can be wrong with the system, what parameters should I check in Cubase or, maybe, in Win7?

•  Two things to check:

1. Are the MIDI ports in MIR named the same as Cubase? In other words, are you actually connecting your Vienna Instrument to the same MIDI port that you're sending from?
2. Is your soundcard multi-client?

• 1. Yes! 2. Mmm... I guess, but... What does it mean? Is it about settings something, or...?
