    This website has great difficulty in Safari 5

    1. "reader" function does not work. at all.

    2. page up/page down does not work, even if you click in the frame and bring focus to the main text area (this was the only way to use page up/down functions before)

    3. same fixed header/fixed footer issues.

    4. Video and audio playback issues.

    Why does VSL insist on inventing their own wheel here? There are countless, literally millions of sites that don't have these issues. Why can't VSL use worldwide standards for web development, so that all browsers can work on the site, and all browsers can easily read the text. What's the big deal?

    hi,

    everything works perfect here with Safari 5.0

    no issues at all, even the reader feature works!

    Let me be more specific... using Mac OS 10.6.3 but also tested on a G5 w/ 10.5.8 -- both behave the same:

    1. On THIS page, reader does not work;

    2. On THIS page, page-up/page-down keys do not work -- even if you bring the "content" into focus by clicking once on the content area (which is the workaround in Chrome and Firefox).

    3. Search still does not work. We must use Google with site: directive to search.

    Scrolling with a keyboard is a basic function of ALL web browsers, but this site seems to be one of the few that take pleasure in breaking this functionality. In previous posts, someone from VSl encouraged the "2 finger scroll" -- but that is not possible on a desktop machine. This is a pet-peeve issue for me, and until it's fixed, I will occasionally remind the developers that their code is stinky and disrespectful to the customer.

    Search for a common phrase -- many of us need to uninstall now and then, so search for "uninstall". 7 results, including one post that I made about search not working very well.

    Now, use Google and search the site

    129 results.

    I continue to suggest we use Google with the "site:community.vsl.co.at" appended until this site's search engine is fixed. It used to work fine. Something changed.

    I don't think anything has changed intentionally for the search engine.  My gut feeling is ever since the crash the had a little while back they either haven't taken the time to repair what's broken, don't know yet what is broken and how to fix it or something else hidden under the radar.  VSL can be very secretive some times :).  This question has been asked many times with no response.  I don't wait for one anymore, just use google.

    For the record, everything works fine in Safari 4.0.5 / PC. A MAC issue?

    For the record, it does not on mac or windows. Latest versions of Safari (mac: 5.0.5533.16; win  5.0.7533.16)

    It also does not work in Internet Explorer (win) 8.0.3001.18702, Chrome (win) 5.0.375.99, Chrome (mac) 5.0.375.99, Firefox (win or mac, any version).

    Try scrolling using pageup/pagedown. Does not work until you click inside the page.

    Try page scrolling using the space bar. Does not work at all.

    Try scrolling with arrow keys (up / down). Does not work at all.

    Every other properly designed web page will do this, in any current browser.

    VSL web designer decided that page scrolling using a keyboard (actually, any device that is not a mouse or trackpad) is worthless. SOME of us do not use mice or trackpads except when required. I use a tablet and pen as my primary pointing tool. i also make use of the keyboard. It's too bad VSL web designer ignores international design standards for basic site navigation. Scrolling is about as basic as it gets.

    This can be fixed if the web designer adds a line of javascript to each page, to bring the content in focus. I must assume they would have fixed this if they wanted to.

    Tried it in all of my browsers, and as long as I bring the contentarea to focus with a mouseclick, space, up/down and page up/page down works just fine. Weird.

    Tested in IE 7, IE 8.0.7600.16385, Firefox 3.6.7, Chrome 5.0375.99, Opera 10.60, Safari 4.0.5. Btw. I'm on Win 7 x64.

    I guess I'm either lucky, or you're very unlucky.

    Anyway, at the very least VSL should fix the focus issue. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes (I'd be really surprised if an extra line of code was required for every page, as opposed to an external, global file). And if they want to go the extra mile, the simulated frame-behaviour should be abandoned altogether, IMHO.I reckon that might sort out the navigation issues you're experiencing.

    Yes, putting the frame into focus allows pageup/pagedown on windows, but that's broken if you ask me.

    BTW, my PC is WinXP.

    Of course they wouldn't have to edit more than a line of code -- it should be a global/template edit. But if they wanted to fix this, they probably would. I think this is a concious design decision, not an error.

    That's why every month or so, I pile-on to the rant. They don't seem to really care about this.

    The site seems to rely on layered divs and overflows to create the frame effect. I don't think it's a design chocie. If so, it would probably have been tested more thoroughly, and problems (or perhaps more correctly, the lack thereof) on browsers on the PC side would have been spotted. The problem is most likely related to the solution with divs and overflows, although I can't see why this would prevent default functionality of spacebar/up/down. Anyway, if it's a bug rather than a design choice, the chances of getting it fixed should increase.

    For what it's worth, I agree with you, and I hope VSL will fix this. Their sample libraries are amongst the best out there, and the VI UI is probably the best of all my software synths. It's a shame the website has problems like those you've described. The whole frame-like approach seems somewhat outdated, as well.
