Hi Dfhagai,
Pinging is a test routine, which checks wether you have successfully established a connection to another computer in any given network - it will help you find out if an eventual communication problem you´re experiencing is caused by your computer, the connection or the remote device.
You can ping any device that uses Internet Protocol (IP), such as a computer, a network printer or a LAN router.
If you are on Mac, here is what you do:
1. Open Network Utility from the Utilities folder in your Applications folder
2. Select the Ping tab on top and click the Ping button in it
3. Type the IP address or DNS name of the device you´re trying to contact (your slave computer or the router) and click the Ping button.
4. If the other device responds to your ping, your basic connection is good.
If this does not help you, please give us a little more information about your setup for both machines, i.e. OS (Mac or PC?), CPU, LAN router, version of VE Pro...etc..., as well as your network settings on both your computers, i.e. IP addresses, wether you are using DHCP, masks...etc... so we can better narrow down the problem.
Best, Marnix
