I have a piece with 8 bars long cello notes.
At the very beginning of the piece the long note is played for the correct time,
but further, when it comes from "spiccato" it plays a very short note
I have tried "ord", "natural" or "arco" but the note remain "spiccato"
if I write legato I get a very short note, the same if I write vibrato (just to try).
Sibelius 6.2 on Windows XP64 with Solo strings VSL library

Do all other switches work correctly?
Are you sure, that you have the right Sibelius instrument in your score? The solo strings only switch correctly, when you also choose the "Solo violin", "Solo viola", ... instruments in Sibelius.
I would try creating a new Solo Cello staff. Then cut and paste the content of the old staff into the new one.
