VE Pro can't find mac server, can't type address either...
Hi there, Recently updated to the latest VE Pro (5436) on both my host (PC) and slave (Mac). For some reason it can't find the slave anymore...now I've had this in the past, and found out I can just type the server address and session name, and still connect without having to see it listed. But with this update, for some reason I can't type the address anymore. My Mac's name is joris-macpro, but I can't type the r, a, i and s keys, so I'll never be able to write the server name. Since I can't copy/paste names from somewhere else either, this leaves me stuck. My host is Nuendo 4.3. It could have to do with the keys I use in my host for editing, however it still doesn't make sense that it worked before and not with this update. I've tried setting the plug-in window to 'not be on top' but this makes no difference...when I type those characters just don't appear. What gives? Also, as a feature request, it would be great if a) you can copy/paste names into the server and session name fields, and b) it keeps a history in a drop down menu of the last 10 servers and sessions you've connected to, so you can do a 'quick connect' without having to type or find the server in the list. Cheers, joe

Since 5436, the server advertisement and discovery uses two additional network ports (6476 and 6477). It would seem you have a firewall running that blocks out these ports. Check your router or any custom firewalls that might be blocking these ports.
For the editing problem: Are you using the VST2 or VST3 version of the VE Pro Server Interface plugin?

Hi Karl, Thanks for the response. I actually just unistalled my security suite and am now running without a firewall...the windows one is disabled and so is the one on the mac. I have an additional strange issue that if I create a new session, instance a VE PRo vst3 plug-in it can see the mac fine. Load up my big project with a number of local and server VE Pro instances, and suddenly it only sees local servers... I'm running the VST3 version of the plug-in....some keys are definitely not working, and none of my other plug-ins have issues with it... Cheers, Joe

I haven't even realized you _can_ edit the hostname or IP address manually, because the field seems to ignore most keyboard input. Activating the field by double-clicking, I notice it accepts some keys though. Going through the number and letter rows the accepted ones are: 89eiodfghjklcbnm.
So, I renamed my slave computer to the majestic name of "eiodfgh" and sure enough, it works: I can connect to it even when it's not listed. Although I also have to limit my instance name to the special letters if I want to be able to connect to it manually as well. A little awkward, although should make for some creative word play (and potentially offensive instance names).
This is only for the VST3 version. The VST2 version doesn't seem to accept any keyboard input.
