  • UAD 2 and VEPro

Anyone successfully using a UAD 2 card and plugs with VEPro?

  • Using both.  What do you need to know about them?

  • Just wanted some confirmation that it was working well in VEPro. It seems like a great solution.

    Thanks for the heads up.

  • Sorry, I think I misunderstood you.  I'm guessing you're wondering whether I'm using UAD with the slave computer of my VE Pro setup?  The answer is, I haven't tried, since my UAD card is used in the Master.

  • So do you all use the UAD system instead of your DAW plug-ins and or say Vienna Suite plug-ins?  Or do you use them in some different way?  I am just curious as I have looked at that system but haven't really endulged into it really deep to understand if it would have any relevence for me since I use Logics Plug-ins.

Do you really find it useful and more powerful than without it?  I have considered purchasing a Metric Halo and purchasing the internal DPS system with all the plug-ins to reduce CPU on my Macbook Pro.  However, the idea of Vienna Suite having all those presets from Dietz would be very valuable I think since I am not a master of mastering.

  • Actually I was thinking of installing a UAD 2 card on my slave which only runs VEPro. I like the idea of not having AU plugs from random manufacturers but from the one reliable source. My mixing needs in VEPro are different from that of my ProTools HD rig. Just some high quality eq and compression to augment the already wonderful Vienna Suite.

I note that the UAD plugs are not cheap though. The cards are very reasonably priced but if you would like some plugs then it's going to be quite expensive.

Still it seems like a similar system to TDM and I've always loved the fact that there is no strain on the computer and all DSP is handled by the cards.

I just want to make sure that UAD works correctly with VEPro.

  • The UAD plugins are great--I tend to use them in lieu of the Logic plugins whenever possible, since I like the idea of a dedicated DSP running the CPU-intensive stuff, like reverbs.  (Their Plate 140 reverb is fantastic.)

I have three VE Pro slaves, and one of them doubles as a PT HD3 system, so the prospect of getting UAD cards for each one is really not all that thrilling to me.

And on a side note, for those who are curious, I've been running PT on a slave machine side by side with VE Pro, with no problems.
