  • Kontakt within VE Pro (standalone) syncing to tempo

I can't get an Kontakt with VE PRo standalone to sync to midi clock. The "ext sync" option can't be activated - it just flashes when clicked. I don't know if it would stay on if it actually received midi clock. The bpm just stays at 120. Logic sends midi clock out on the correct port (also tried "all ports").

I am not sure if this is a Kontakt or a VE Pro problem (I have no other VSTs that would respond to tempo to test)  I don't know if VE PRo filters out midi clock data? Or most probably: Am I missing something?

DAW: Logic 9.1.1. , OS X 10.5.8., sending midi clock out via Emagic amt-8 midi interface

Slave: Kontakt 3.5 as VST plugin inside VE Pro 4.0.4881 standalone, Windows XP, receiving midi via Midisport interface

  • No MIDI messages are filtered from instrument plugins in VE Pro. Does the MIDI input indicator (small square on the channel strip to the left of the VU meter) light up when you send the MIDI clock signal? If not, it doesn't seem to reach Kontakt. Perhaps something is not right with your routing somehow? Or perhaps Kontakt doesn't expect a MIDI clock signal, but rather a host synchronization from VE Pro. Unfortunately VE Pro does not sync to a MIDI clock at this time, but this is noted for a future update.

That's indeed the answer, as I found out. Kontakt can't sync to midi clock, but only to host synchronization.

It would be great to get VE Pro to sync to midi clock in that future update! Many thanks for your answer.

  • Please include VEPro sync to midi tempo, this is so basic and essential, I dont understand why you have left it so long.

  • Agreed! This is such an essential tool, a dealbreaker for most. Why do they say they can run Kontakt and Stylus and all these tempo-based plugs but not have any kind of sync set up??? Hope they figure it out soon.

Beacuse VE Pro is meant to be used as a plugin.

Not only. It's advertised as server or standalone.  Standalone is pretty much the only way at the moment for 3+ computer setups (for example a Logic sequencer, a PC with VE Pro as a "sampler", and Pro Toolls as a recorder and mixer), unless we go back to Plogue Bidule.

Of course, but I was trying to explain why tempo is not necessarily essential for the majority of users, as was suggested, because many users don't work with VEP as a standalone, and in any case there are many other choices for standalone hosts.

  • "not necessarily essential for the majority of users"

DG I challenge you to look closer at that statement. I think you'll find it's the minority. Most full time composers use it stand alone or server.

Who said anything about full time composers?
