  • Ensemble Pro and integration with Sibelius

    Hello:

I've just upgraded from Ensemble to Ensemble Pro, because Pro has some wonderful features, but also because Ensemble keeps crashing on me (there's a separate thread about that).

My problem now is that the link or connection between Sibelius and Ensemble Pro does not seem to work.  With Ensemble when I went in to "Playback Devices", clicked on Ensemble and then on Activate an instance of Ensemble would open.  Since upgrading to Ensemble Pro when I click on Activate nothing happens.  I've not been able to figure out a way to get this to happen.  I can open Ensemble Pro by itself, load sounds and they play using the keyboard within Ensemble Pro, so that seems to be working just fine.

What do I need to do to restore the connection between the two programs?  (I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Pro several times.)

    Thank you!

  • Hello John!

Sorry, that you are having problems. Can you provide us with some more details?
Are you working on a single machine or over a network connection?
Did you start Vienna Ensemble Pro Server before starting Sibelius?
On which OS are you working?
What exactly happens, when you try to activate a VE Pro instance? Does it appear in the activated devices list? If you then click on show, does the Connection interface appear? If yes, what happens when you try to connect?

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • I have the same problem working on a Mac Quad Core running 10.6.2 and Sibelius.

VE Pro and Sibelius are running on the same machine. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I activate an instance of VE Pro before starting Sibelius or not. VE Pro DOES appear in the activated devices list in Sibelius but does not connect whether it is started before or or after Sibelius. It's as if Sibelius is ignoring the fact that VE Pro is there. (Incidentally, I had the same problem in 10.5.8 with VE Pro, but it worked fine with VE Ensemble as it did for John.)

  • Hello Keith!

What do you mean with starting a VE Pro instance before Sibelius? You will have to start VE Pro Server before Sibelius and not a VE Pro instance.

  • Andi:

In answer to your questions: 1) single machine, 2) yes I start Ensemble Pro first, 3) Windows 7.

But I think I figured out my problem.  In the Vienna_Ensemble_PRO_Manual_English_v1.2.pdf file available on your website.  Here's a quote:

"Advertise on local network needs to be active to make your Vienna Ensemble Slave visible for other computers in your network."

Since I am working on a single computer I unchecked "advertise" to eliminate that overhead.  I could not connect instances of Ensemble Pro as the "slave devices" area was always blank.  Eventually I ran out of things to test so I rechecked "advertise" and now things are flowing as they should.

Is my experience typical?  If so you might want to update the manual.  But what would really be wonderful is an MPEG tutorial on using Ensemble Pro with Sibelius!

    Thanks,
    John

  • Im also having the same problem with protools 6 and VE pro on osx snow leopard. It cant find the active instances o VE pro. I tried with 32 bits  and 64 bits instances and just ad the same result as john.

    Thanks
