  • Stuck notes (sort of) and dropouts (sort of) in VE Pro

So I'm new to VE Pro, and while I mostly have it working, a couple issues have come up, both of which are intermittent. I'm using my Quad 2.66 GHz Mac Pro with 16 gigs of RAM, OSX 10.6.2, and Digital Performer 7.02 as the master computer, with a PC slave running XP and VE hosting two instances of Kontakt 4.

The first problem is that I'm sometimes having problems with stuck notes on my slave PC. The funny thing is, they stop when I hit stop on my sequencer, and then start up again when I hit play. It seems to be notes that I'm playing elsewhere in the sequence, but they're being triggered before I get to that section of the sequence, for example if the strings don't come in until bar 16 of the sequence, I'll start the sequence at bar 8 and there's a note or two from later on in the sequence that just sustain until I hit stop. I can do a MIDI panic/All notes off command, which doesn't stop them right away, but after a few times of hitting it, I can have it play normally.

The second problem is that some of the Kontakt instruments on my slave PC are having something which at first sounded like dropouts, but then I realized was a little different. This has only happened on sustained string patches from LASS and EWQLSO, I haven't had time to experiment with other sounds yet. The note starts, plays for a half second or so, then drops down in volume to almost nothing, and sustains at that level until note off. CC changes don't alter the results.

Unfortunately, both problems are intermittent, I've been able to work for a couple of days with no problems, then a day or two of constant problems, with nothing that I can think of that I'm doing differently.  It's a big drag, and a real momentum killer, especially when it's so close to being really awesome.  If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
