    Sorry, me again,

    still canĀ“t get it things to work. IĀ“m on a Mac pro 4.1 Quad-Core Intel xeon OSX 10.6.2 running Pro Tools 8.0.3.

    I can open my VEP plug in on an Pro tools multichannel Instrument track, the connection window from VEP standalone appears but doesĀ“nt give me any choices at all, itĀ“s all blank .  No available slaves or anything.

    If I do the same thing opening VEpro "server" it seeĀ“s a localhost which I can connect to. Since i learned yesterday, that i can only send audio from Pro Tools into Vienna E Pro using the standalonversion, thatĀ“s no good for me.

    What am I doing wrong?

    How do you plan to get audio from the standalone into Pro Tools?  Don't you need a physical connection, such as an ADAT cable from the Mac Optical Out into the 192 in?  My system is about the same as yours, and the problem I have with standalone is that I only get two channels of audio that way.  I use VE in the server mode,  which gives me 32 channels in.  

    The other question is, why would you want to get audio from Pro Tools into VE?  If it's to do audio processing, why not use the Vienna Suite plugins as RTAS directly in ProTools?  I can't think of another reason besides using AU plugins, and most have RTAS versions.

    thanks for your reply. 

    1) I cannot connect my VEP standalone to Pro tools at all. I should be able to, but with my setup, I have no idea why i cannot.

    Since I run a 1 computer setup, i should not use VEP server at least thatĀ“s what I understand.

    2) The reason why i bought VEP was because I thought it would enable me to use VST and AU plugs to process my audio.

    I lot of VST- AU Plugs I am interested in are not available in RTAS.

    As you know,  Pro Tools doesĀ“nt allow me to do any other than TDM or Native stuff, but I want to send audio from PT, process it in VEP and send it back. That is not possible?

    I use the Rtas Vienna Suite plugs in Pro Tools off course!

    Maybe i misunderstood the concept of what VEP is for. ItĀ“s a bit of a downer i have to admit, but I also acknowledge that the VSL people,

    by far, still create the best sounding and smartest programmed plugs in the world.

    thanks for your kind feedback!

    1) If you start VE PRO Server, you can connect to this local instance, as you wrote in the first post.

    2) Yes, thatĀ“s a great advantage, and of course it works. But it is not possible to send audio to VE PRO, by design. This feature might be added in the future, but the demand does not seem to be big - this has been asked for only once before, afaik.

    The concept of VE PRO is to give you a host and mixing interface for all available instrument plug-ins, with some additional features like preserve - and of course itĀ“s also a 64 bit application.

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for clearing this up, very kind, Ā“cause I kept misunderstanding VEPĀ“s Audio Input Channels purpose.

    I can still make very good use of VEP and probably will end up with a multicomputer setup in the near future anyway.

    ItĀ“s been mentioned before, but iĀ“m still very excited about the Vienna Suite plugs. I do a lot of music for advertising

    and for mastering the Multiband Limiter is my "go to"  Plug. 

    If need to,  Smooth as a peach.

    Pro Tools is very picky about how it gets audio in and out.  The only two "in the box" methods I know for getting audio into Pro Tools are Rewire and VE Pro.  Soundflower and Aggregated Audio Devices do not work.  Basically ProTools wants a hardware input.  It wouldn't hurt for you to put an optical cable from the Mac Pro into the 192 just for cases where rewire is not compatible or not practicable.  I find Rewire slows down ProTools in a way that VE Pro doesn't.

    VE Pro Standalone does have audio inputs.  In Server Mode the Audio input channels are for additional outputs of multi-channel plugins (such as audio from channels 3-4 of Kontakt).

    Finally, you might want to consider a VST to RTAS wrapper, like the one from FXpansion for running VST plugins in Pro Tools.  There is no AU to RTAS wrapper and probably never will be.  I've not used the FXpansion thing, as I understand any wrapper situation is less than ideal, plus I don't really use VST's.

    i donĀ“t want to use wrappers, itĀ“s all too messy, FXpansion- i like Synth Squad a lot but ( I like FXpansion, donĀ“t get me wrong) guru messed up my pro tools when i bought it early on.

    ThatĀ“s what i meant when i said the Guys at VSL do program some of the best plugs around.Things basically work. I bought so many well marketed but not so workable plugs over the years.

    I divide Plug-in companies now into 2 categories now.

    First: They make it easy for their customer.

    Second: They make it easy for themselves.

    The VST thing is not majorly important, i was just recently attracted to a few plugs . ThereĀ“s alwas ways to do things. I would even consider loading a track as a sample into Kontakt or any sampleplayer i can use in in VEpro and then treat it with VST and rerecord it. Im not an audio fundamentalist, i go for results not measurements. I also have ableton, but couldĀ“nt get my head around yet.

    No, New York.  But every once in a while I use a British-ism, such as "practicable."

    I recently wanted to figure out how to send audio from Pro Tools over to Logic on another machine in order to use the Delay Designer, but I couldn't do it.  Basically, Pro Tools only gives you 16 outs, and I was already using all of them.  I didn't want to buy another interface just for that.  Another option which I've heard of is to use a MADI card and then go ADAT into your interface.  That would give you multichannel into ProTools using a standalone VE Pro.  The same might work with a Firewire interface, but  I've never heard of anyone doing this.

    Why donĀ“t you just export the track and then upload in Logic?

    I used Logic in the 90`s, but stopped once i tried and could afford Pro Tools.

    How is New York these days, havent been in ages.

    That bloody crisis drives everyone nuts over there doesĀ“nt it? GetĀ“s quite sticky over here as well. I wish Ron Paul would be president in the US. wouldĀ“nt have wasted all that money on the Wall Street guys for nothing.

    What do you do? Do you make records,? or filmmusic?
