    Andi,

I have downloaded the sound sets and the VI presets.  I have also referred to the guide on how to set them up.

I see references to the Vienna Ensemble Pro Server Interface. If that is a separate piece from VePro I either don't have it installed or don't know how to find it. I did install the VePro executable on my master PC. It won't load with a license.

In Sibelius, the VePro is listed as an active playack device and some of the sound sets appear to be recognized. I have VePro running on the slave with channels that are playable on my master PC Sonar.

It doesn't appear that Sibelius is connected to the slave computer.

    Andi,

I was able to get the VePro Interface window to show up by placing it as a plugin in Sonar. However, it showed no slave computer nor was I able to type in the name of the slave in the name window.

  • Hello Jim!

Please make sure to start Vienna Ensemble Pro Server on your slave computer before you start Sonar or Sibelius on your master. Then after activating Vienna Ensemble Pro in Sonar or Sibelius, you should be able to connect to your slave. If it doen't appear there, you probably have a problem with your network connection.

If you don't load samples on your master computer, you will not have to start Vienna Ensemble Pro server there.

    Best,
    Andi

  •  Hello Andi,

After I installed VePro plugins on the master PC, I was able to see VePro and the sound sets in the active playback window of the Sibelius 6.1

software. However, the Sibelius seems to be looking only at the non-active version that resides on the master.  I was able to fetch up the

VePro interface window inside of Sonar but it wouldn't accept the name of the slave computer, hence showed no slaves active. When I clicked on "connect", nothing happened.

I think there is a service that runs on the slave that advertises it's ID to the other network computers. I see no signs of having such a service.

I am obviously overlooking some detail that allows Sibelius to connect to the slave.  I don't think there is anything wrong with my network setup since sonar reads the slave through midi-over-lan and I also had, for awhile, "network magic" software that showed all of the computers in my home, including the VSL slave.

I am pouring over every piece of documentation I can find. The solution is there, I just haven't found it as yet.

If you have further ideas, please let me know.

    thanks,

    Jim Ferguson

  • Hello Jim!

Normally you shouldn't have to type in the name of the slave computer. Please open Vienna Ensemble Pro Server on your slave before opening Sonar or Sibelius on your master. Then activate the VE Pro plugin, show the VE Pro Server Insterface and click on connect. The IP address of your slave computer should appear in the list of available slaves. Just click on that entry then.

If this doesn't work, please check with the eLicenser software if the VE Pro (or VE3) license is present on your slave computer. If yes and it still doesn't work, it must be a network problem.

    Andi

  •  Hello Andi,

I start Ensemble Pro Server on the slave.

I start Sibelius on the PC master.

    Goto playback window.

activate Enseble Pro in both columns.

hit the "show" button which locks up the computer.

Is the show button the correct way to display the Ensemble Server interface ?

I never see the server interface to allow me to select "connect".

However, in Sonar on the master, I can run the ensemble server window and execute a successful connect. It shows the IP and name of the slave. But, connecting through Sonar has no effect on what is happening in Sibelius.

  •  Hello Andi,

I discovered the problem.   VePro on my slave is 4.0. The version on the master was 1.0.  I downloaded 4.0 from VSL and voila, it worked like

a charm. Finally, I can move on the working with Sibelius and VSL.

Thanks for staying with me on this one.

    One hour later:

I started to create a new test score in Sibelius and I lost contact with the Proserver interface screen and couldn't get it back.

    No idea what happened.

  • Hi Jim!

There is an incompatibility on a few Windows XP machines between Sibelius and Vienna Ensemble Pro. Unfortunately this is a problem which can not be solved from our side. Which OS do you have?
If you haven't got the last Vienna Ensemble 3 (Network version) version, I can provide you with a link. This version works flawlessly with Sibelius.

    Sorry for the inconviniences.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  •  Good Morning Andi,

Well, I thought I had it "licked" yesterday when the setup worked for about an hour. Now, when I try to "show" the VePro server interface, the CPU maxes out immediately, even if the load on the slave is held to the minimum.  My OS is XP Home Edition with 2 usable gigs of RAM.

Sonar, however, has no problem in loading the server interface, connecting to the slave and then running it's current project.

I read one article on internet where a guy connected via his sequencer (REAPER) and routed everything from Sibelius through that. Doesn't sound like a great idea to me.

I have no version of ensemble 3.  But, if it will work, I would be happy to get it. Please provide me with a link for that.

Further, I have about decided to get a new Xeon PC with 8 to 12 gigs RAM running 64bit Windows 7. Then the question of Sibelius compatibility comes into question, plus some other drivers, i.e. MOTU 2408 sound card.

First, I'll try the ensemble 3 as per your suggestion.

Thanks, as always for your continued help,

    Jim Ferguson

  • Hi Jim!

The problem you described is known to occur on some Windows XP Home machines. It won't appear on your new Windows 7 machine.

Our software is compatible with Xeon PCs running Windows 7 64 bit. As far as I know Sibelius 6 also is. I have succesfully tried out Sibelius 6 with VE Pro on such a setup.

I'll send you the link for Vienna Ensemble 3 in an e-mail to your registered address.

    Best,
    Andi

  •  Hello Andi,

I downloaded the the Ensemble 3 network version and it works well with Sibelius. So, I'll use this until the VePro problems are smoothed out.

Regarding my new PC, do you think the i7 processors are good for VSL?

    PROCESSOR • Intel® Core™ i7-920 Processor

    PROCESSOR SPEED • 2.66GHz

    CACHE (L2) • 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache with QPI Technology

    CHIPSET • Intel® X58 Express Chipset

    MEMORY • 9GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM memory (3x2048MB and 3x1024MB)

    (expandable to 24GB)

    Windows 7 64bit

In so far as my slave Vista goes, it has 8 gigs of RAM which isn't going to be enough when my project sizes become large.

Maybe I'll be leaving you alone for a while.

    Thanks,

    Jim Ferguson

  • Hi Jim!

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like a good configuration. The i7s are good for VSL indeed, but why not take 6x2 GB RAM?

    Best,
    Andi
