  • Problems with articulations & Velocity X-fading in Sibelius

Hello, Sibelius behaves VERY strangely together with my Vienna Special Edition, and I believe the problem is not Vienna. For some reason, on random occations, some instruments stops sending some of the MIDI messages (dynamics, articulations, etc). For instance, the articulation doesn't switch back if I use a staccato and then a regular note. I haven't figured out WHEN this occures, but it seems the only way to deal with this is to remove the instrument, add a new one, and then copy&paste the contents of the faulty staff to the new staff. This solves it for a while, but doing this means I have to remake the layout in my template for that part (which is extra time when it comes to printing the score). It doesn't seem to affect any particular "group" of instruments, it's been flute2 ones, trombone once, vln1 once, etc. Also, the "expression (CC11)" seems really bugged in some occations. The controller message is sometimes plainly ignored, and some times, when looking at the faders behavour in the Vienna Instrument, it seems to just randomly fly up and down. Also, when using Velocity Crossfading, am I supposed to remove the "CC11" from "Expression" and only use CC11 for Velocity X-fading or shall I keep them both for CC11? I'm not sure if these are common errors, but I know several that has the same symptoms, so what I need is some way to reset playback configuration or anything that helps, otherwise VSL & Sibelius works just fine, but it kind of annoying not being able to use if fully without trouble. Regards, Andreas

  • Hello Andreas!

If you haven't done so yet, I recommend getting the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual at the following location:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

You will find lots of useful hints there. In your case I recommend reading the troubleshooting section at the end of that document. Probably you will find a solution for your playback problems there.

How to use Vel XFade best with Sibelius is also explained in the manual.

    Best regards,
    Andi
