  • Vienna Suite in Logic 9.1

I can only access Vienna Suite effects through Audio Units (32-bit) in Logic 9.1.

This is puzzling on numerous levels. Vienna Suite is a 64-bit package, but it was available on Logic 8. Now, on Logic 9.1 which touts 64-bit compatibility, VS appears only as a 32-bit option. VS is not offered even within a VE Pro Server running 64-bit if accessed through a Logic channel strip.

Worse yet, Logic 9.1 opens the 32-bit bridge window for an extra click to get to the VS plug-in. And even worse, I've been crashing the 32-bit bridge trying to access a VS instance. This was on a song that had originally instantiated the VS plug-in (PowerPan, in this case) in a Logic 8 song.

Once the 32-bit bridge crashes, Logic 9.1 soon follows. Re-launching Logic and the song does not re-connect the still loaded VE Pro instances. Instead, it opens up new instances, effectively double-loading the same sounds.

So, if the 32-bit bridge crashes, Logic will soon fail, and VE Pro instances are not "re-connectable." The only alternative is a total reboot.

This is on v4.0 4780 (64-bit), Logic 9.1.0, OS 10.6.2.  If the new VE Pro beta addresses this, please advise.

  • VE Pro v4.0.4780 has a critical bug which causes crashes on loading instrument data (matrices in particular, but it affects every stage where a matrix needs to be loaded). I advise you to upgrade to the last public beta at any rate.

  • I'm awaiting clarification on the original question: why does a 64-bit program like Vienna Suite only show up in 32-bit? Perhaps the new beta addresses this. Thanks.

Please install the current version of Vienna Suite build 1430. This version is compatible with Logic 64 bit.
