  • Cooperation in producing Mahler's "Um Mitternacht" and Bach's "Mache Dich, mein ...

    Hello,

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who'd like to produce Gustav Mahler's "Um Mitternacht" and J.S. Bach's "Mache Dich, mein Herze rein" (Matthäus-Passion) using the VSL/Vienna Instruments while I provide the vocal parts.

It's intendend to be a cooperation without any payment.

Are there informations you need to decide whether you'd like to join in?

  • Hello Sebastian

Obviously you are a musician or a singer.

I know that musicians are "heikle Kunden" when it comes to the interpretation of the Play-Along.

    Why this introduction?

3 Minutes of Chamber Music (Chamber-Ensemble) means around 3 days of work.

    Whishes like:

    • Bei Takt 15-17 ein bisschen langsamer
    • Takt 25 - 27 ein bisschen mehr piano
    • Takt 39 - 45 ein warmes legato

will need another day of work...

Then you need to record and mix the voice... another 5 - 9 h

I don't want to disapoint you but I hope to show you "the sample side" of your wish.

So it could be that nobody "bite in the casted line".

4 -5 days of work (40h - 45h) for one piece... No money

    Let's hope for you!

  • I am not quite sure whether I get your point.

Are you telling me that you are not too happy with my post because you'd like to see some appreciation?

    Sebastian

  • I don't want to speak for Beat but I think what he's trying to say is that what you're asking for is a lot of work for someone to do out of the kindness of their heart.

Also, you never mentioned what you plan on doing with this work.  Are you going to try and market this somehow as exposure of your talent as a vocalist?  Is there a profit motive here?  Maybe some more details would lead to more responses.

Basically, what is this for and where is the finished product going.  Not to mention, what's in it for me?  Not that I'm selfish but I am self serving.  There's a difference.

    Hello Sebastian

It has nothing to do with "being happy or not".

I tried to explain that you are asking for quit a lot of work for the price of a "God bless you" [;)]

Maybe you thought that somebody will be able to play the two pieces in 30 minutes. ...

    Kind Regards

  •  Hello Beat,

well, If I hear you correct you are saying that you'd like to see some awareness regarding the "sample side" of the production:

How much time and energy is involved in realizing a piece of music on an computer.

And that you'd need balancing in one way or another for what you had done.

Is that what you wanted to get across?

    Sebastian

  •  Hello Jasen,

"Not that I'm selfish but I am self serving.  There's a difference."

I am taking in that message and I am really thankful for it because I value to learn [:)].

Let me summarize what I heard you express:

To consider a participation you'd need to know more about the background:

What does me motivate in doing it and what plans do I have with it.

And, you'd have to be clear about what you get back.

    Is that accurate?

    Sebastian

    Dear Sebastian

We already used 20 minutes and you still don't have any first played sample of a Playback > So, forget my post.

"Mache dich, mein Herze frei" is a beautiful Aria and I would be very pleased for you that you can get a nice Playback for it.

Let's hope that you can find somebody.

Yeah that's pretty much it Sebastian.  If you want more responses to your original post of requesting a collaborative effort on these works I think the more information you give and the more incentives you offer the more responses you will receive.  "Let joy be the one and only motivation for your actions."  I tried telling that to the bank when they wanted my mortgage payment but I still had to pay up.

Bear in mind that money is just one form of incentive.  A great deal of exposure could also sweeten a collaboration deal for an unknown composer/programmer.  That's why I think it would be important for you to tell everyone what you plan on doing with the finished product.  If someone is going to put their blood sweat and tears into this they need to know that it's going to attract a decent amount of attention and not just be tucked away in your MP3 player for your own personal gratification.

Just some thoughts Sebastian but good luck in your quest.

     Jasen,

I can need a little bit of humor, and what you wrote met that need.[:)] Thank you.

I am going to re-consider how and maybe even if I might propose my initial request again.

With what is underlying your words "I am self-serving" and my motto "Let joy be the one and only motivation for your actions." I start to wonder whether it can ever serve someone doing something while there is blood, sweat and tears in the game - at least if the person does it in order to get something back in the future and from the outside, like money, attention, praise or any other form of a medal.

    I start to wonder...
