    Hi

    I might have misunderstood everything, but I would really appreciate if someone could clarify this issue:

    I'm in Logic 8/OS 10.5.8 and has bought VE Pro so I could get rid of the 4 GB limit in Logic. 

    But now I'm hitting the 4 GB limit with VE Pro... I thought that each instance of VE Pro would give you a limit of 4 GB but it seems to be the server is limited to 4 GB. Of course I understand that a 32 bit app has this limit, but I also thought that each instance of VE Pro would be "seen" as a new app, therefore not having this limit... So, did I simply misunderstand the concept, or am I doing something wrong when opening a new instance?

     All 32bit instances of VE Pro share the same memory space. All 64bit instances of VE Pro share the same memory space.

    Therefore if you are loading 32bit sample players into the 32bit server, you will get a maximum of 4GB. Also remember that VE Pro itself will take some memory, and the limit probably won't be more than around 3.2-3.5GB in practice.

    If you want to use more memory in VE Pro you have to use the 64bit sever, and 64bit applications. If your chosen sample player is not 64bit then contact the developers, tell them to join the 21st Century and get their collective a*ses in gear.....!

    I can't seem to get a straight answer/info anywhere. Is VEPro able to see all the computers RAM (beyond 4gb), say while running in ProTools on a Mac with Snow Leopard as the OS?

    The info is so ambiguous or I'm not looking in the right place for which I apologize for my ignorance.

    What DG tried to insinuate, is that Vienna Ensemble Pro 64-bit is indeed able to address all of your computers RAM, but can of course only host true 64-bit Plugins, such as f.i. our Vienna Instruments, Vienna Suite, Vienna Imperial and Spectrasonics Stylus RMX.

    In fact, there are still very few 64-bit Plugins on the market.

     

    On the other hand, Vienna Ensemble Pro 32-bit is still limited to the 4 GB of accessible RAM, just like any other 32-bit application.

     

    I hope that clarifies the situation...

    Hi: I would like to add something I discovered today JBridge lets you wrap 32bit vsts in a 64 bit wrapper. I converted my existing 32 bit plugins to 64 bit in a new folder. I now have my original 32bit plugins and a 64bit version of them as well. I opened a 32 bit server instance and a 64 bit server instance. I was able to use both with my original 32bit vsts and also my newly converted (wrapped in 64) vsts. What's more I now had 2 separate memory resident processes. That's all the further I got as I had to go to work but I will continue to experiment further when I get home.
