Hello Firts excuse my english (i'm french)... I start to work with finale and VSL (Symphonic cube and more) I have no problems to create my presets and to synchronise it with Finale expressions. My problem is a latency problem... When i increase the buffers of the "vienna ensemble" i have a lot of crack in the sound ! And when i put the buffers to 0 : some notes stay blok, and continue to play. And sometime they don't play... Can you help me ? Thanks, Cyriaque (Macpro 8 core /10.5.8/ 3Ghz/ 16mo ram)

SOLVED Problem with vienna ensemble 2 and finale 2009
-
Hello Cyriaque!
Unfortunately the Finale guys have forgotten to implement the possibility to change the buffer size in Finale 2009 and 2010 on Mac. They promised to implement it in a future version. I recommend leaving the buffer slider of VE at x2.
Crackling playback may also have different reasons. Maybe your hard-drive is not fast enough. If you have a firewire audio interface and a firewire hardrive, they are in each others way. It may also help, to install the latest version of drivers for your audio interface. Have you tried it with the built-in audio? If the playback is clean then, the problem has something to do with your audio-interface.
Best regards,
Andi

Hello Andi, and thank ! It's not a hardware problem because i have four sata hardware 7200 inside my macpro and VSL is instaled on... But my audio interface is a Digi 003 "protools". Is there an incompatibility with the "vienna ensemble 2" buffer, ( and with "Vienna ensemble pro" ) ? Because i have the same problem of buffer's crack with "vienna ensemble" in Protools, but i can rule the buffer inside... That's a pity for Finale; Is there the same problem with Sibellius and Mac ? It's impossible to me to try the sound with the built-it audio before saturday... But i can buy a new sound card before if there's realy an incompatibility with protools. Thanks for your quick answer ! Cyriaque. PS: I dont understand why, but my message is "compact" and there no spaces...Sorry for the reading...

Hi Cyriaque,
Vienna Ensemble is perfectly compatible with Pro Tools on Mac, but there is one crucial setting you should adjust in Pro Tools itself if you haven´t done so yet:
Please select Setup/Playback Engine and set the number of RTAS Processors to at least one less than your computer is actually equipped with - please also experiment with this setting, since VE Pro will also require some CPU power!
Please let us know wether this made a difference!
Best, Marnix

Hello marnix and thank for your answer... I'm just back in my house and i have made a lot of tests. With Protools and "vienna ensemble pro" i had absolutly not problem, no crack, everythings are perfect... And it's great ! But with "Finale 2009" i have always a lot of crack with "Digi 003",when i'm in 1 or 2 buffers. To solve the problem, i just have to past by the internal output of my Macpro, and the sound become clean. For the moment i don't understand why, but i guess it's a problem with the "digi coreaudio manager" I had try to rule the number of prossessors in the preferences of "vienna ensemble pro" but there's no différence... With Protools, it's not a problem. Cyriaque.

Hi Marnix...No, not yet. But i have try many forum in france : no answer. I don't know if i will try to do it, because now, i'm shure to buy Sibelius soon ! I work with Finale since so mutch long time, it's not a very intuitive soft... Now it's possible with "rewire" to conect Protools with Sibelius... Symphonic cube + Vienna ensemble pro+ Vienna suite + Protools+ Sibelius = Great solution, and (I hope so) the end of many problems !!! Thanks from France, Cyriaque.
