  • VE pro + VSE plus + Sibelius 6 = weird behaviour

    Hi,

First of all, I made sure I had the latest everything (software updates, soundset, etc...).

For some reason, Sibelius doesn't play the right articulation and dynamics. Crescendi and diminuendi sometime move the expression/velocity xfade slider, sometime not.
I'm working on a chamber violin part where I'm using tremolos. But when I come back to natural playing (ie. no tremolo), which I thought would trigger the sustain articulation, it seems to get stuck to the tremolo articulation.

What is happening is pretty difficult to explain, but to me, it looks like something is suddenly bugging and whatever message Sibelius sends to VE pro - apart from the pitch of the notes - get lost somewhere (or isn't sent by Sibelius?).

Is there a way to sort of "reset" the midi messages and check what Sibelius is actually sending to VE pro? Any idea what's going on?
Maybe you need more specific information?...

    Best,
    Denis

  • Hello Denis!

Please notice, that dynamics are set to velocity by default. If you want to use velocity xfade, you have to set it up for every Vienna Instrument you are using.

If you mix up different ensemble string types (chamber, orchestral, Appassionata) in one score, this may lead to wrong switches. If this happens, you can do the following:
Create one instance of Vienna Ensemble for each ensemble string type. Load one ensemble string type in one instance and the other string type(s) in the other(s). In the Sibelius mixer, choose the Vienna Ensemble instance (Initial Playback device) for the string instruments manually.

If this didn't help, I recommend checking out the Troubleshooting section of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual. There are many useful hints. You can download it from the following location:

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi. I'll create a different instance in VE pro server for each strings type and see what happens.
One day, I hope I'll fully understand how VSL and Sibelius work and interact with eachother. That'd save me quite some time.
