    I got everything set up and easily had one instance of Kontakt with my string section in it.  I loaded the VE pro plug in just as I would an AU instrument and it worked.  All 16 channels were accessible in Logic just as if the instrument were loaded there.

    But I couldn't communicate with a second instance of Kontakt in VE Pro.

    I assume I need to assign various midi ports from Logic and then in VE Pro so that.  

    Here;s what I want to do.

    I want one VE pro to contain my orchestral template which consists of 4 instances of Kontakt, each with a section in it.  And to then be able to play each separate instrument from Logic.  That's the midi side of course.

    Then I need to output each of my sections (one each Kontakt instance) to different stereo outputs that correspond to stereo inputs in Logic.

    Is there a diagram of this somewhere.  I have looked at the manual but only for a quick set up.  And I didn't find this info...at least not staring me in the face.

    How can I get some help with the basics?

    The way you describe won't work with Logic. You need to use one instance for each 16 channels of Kontakt that you want, just as you would if loading the Kontakt plug directly.
