  • Vienna Suite and Planned Computer Upgrade/Configuration Advice Needed

Over the next few months, I am planning on purchasing the Vienna Suite, and hopefully some additional libraries. I will also be working with a firm to upgrade a computer to a 64 bit o/s (will give me a total of two), and am wondering how best to configure the two computers. At this point, I am not at all comfortable with engineering/mixing, and am wondering if the Vienna Suite would potentially best be installed on the slave, along with my Vienna libraries, or on the master with my sequencer (Sonar), and notation program. Conceptually, I like the idea of doing all the mixing within a VE Pro/Vienna Suite environment, and using the sequencer only for recording. I also believe that I would find the many presets in the Vienna Suite to be most helpful as I get started. Of necessity, due to very severe eyesight limitations, I also need to keep things as simple as possible, and am extremely limited when it comes to dealing with ā€œfine pointā€ visual details (hence the value of presets). What would be a recommended approach? Thanks.

    Hi noldar12,

you will get 3 licenses with the purchase of Vienna Suite, so thereĀ“s no need to worry about this - you can install your licenses on up to 3 computers, given you have 3 ViennaKeys available.

You will like the presets a lot - did you check out the free demo already? ItĀ“s available here.

  • Paul, thanks for the comment - was unaware that Vienna Suite came with three licenses. As for downloading the demo - is still premature - first step over the next few weeks will be to get the computer upgraded. Simply don't have the funds to do everything at once. With the three licenses though, that will give the flexibility to see what method ends up working best... would still be curious about what type of configuration is preferred. Thanks again.

  • Hi noldar12,

there are so many possible configurations, depending on your budget, plans and expectations.....

On PC, IĀ“d go with Win7 for sure. Maybe you want to share some more information, IĀ“m sure that fellow users will chime in.

    Best,

  • Paul, thanks again. On the computer upgrade, if I were to dedicate the intended upgraded machine to VSL, Windows 7 would make great sense. As far as other info: my libraries consist of all four of the VE Special Editions, and EWQL Platinum Plus. Both machines will have Q9550 processors, and 8 gigs of ram (a core i7 upgrade is not financially feasible). One of the machines will need to also become the main DAW. At present, all sample libraries are on the Vista 64 machine, while Sonar and Finale are on the 32 bit XP Home machine. Once upgraded, I intend to have the VSL samples on one machine, and the EW samples on the other. My gut feeling is to put Sonar/Finale on the machine that will have the EW samples on it (the existing Vista 64 machine), as I am much more likely to eventually add more libraries from VSL than from EW at this point - long term the VSL machine is the one most likely to come under increasing strain. Nevertheless, if other users feel that there are real advantages to going the other direction, I would do that. Again, thank you for your comments.
