Please bear with me as I try to understand what many of you have already talked about and discussed. Today is my first time loading up VE Pro and I just want to make sure I'm understanding how to use Kontakt properly inside VE Pro.
I have Sonar 8 running on the DAW. I have VE Pro running on an XP slave machine.
1. If I have an instance of Kontakt in channel 3 of VEPro, I cannot access more than one midi channel for that instance. This is because Sonar doesn't recognize the vst3 protocol, right? So the only solution for poor Sonar would be to open an instance of Kontakt for each need of a midi channel? Correct? But say, If Sonar COULD understand vst3, then to access multiple midi channels in one instance of Kontakt inside VE Pro, I would assign the Kontakt instance its own MIDI port in the "Midi In" dropdown list, right? Then I could access the 16 midi channels for that instance, while having other VSTs loaded and accessible within the same VE Pro.
If this is how it is... is there a workaround, other than loading one instance kontakt for every midi channel you need?
2. Second question is: I remember something (couldn't find it with a search) about using VST2 plug-in so that Kontakt could receive program changes. How does one set this up from sequencer. Does the VST2 server interface access VE Pro? And where is the vst2 plug-in located, and how do I know whether it's vst2 or vst3 version? I'm really confused on this one....
Thanks for being patient as I struggle to get my head around this. I'm usually pretty good about technology, but some of the terminology of VE has only slight variation, and this has gotten me confused I think.
