  • Question for MAC OS 10 guru's --- VE and Memory

    Hello

    I have a Macpro 8 core 3 ghz with 13 gb

I have made a big orchestral template that is using SE Plus and Appassionata

When it is loaded In the Activity Monitor I have :

    • Memory Free : 1.38 GB
    • Wired : 4.68 GB
    • Active : 5,54 GB
    • Inactive : 1.41 GB
    • Used : 11.63 GB
    • VM size : 224.02 GB
    • Page ins : 274 MB
    • Page Outs : 588 KB
    • Swap used : 11.5 MB

Why 224 GB of VM size ?

If the swap is used, does it mean I need to have more memory put in my Macpro

    Best

Virtual memory is automatically reserved by the OS, but it is not used by our software. Mac OS X RAM Management is quite complex, you´ll find more info about virtual memory handling here.

You can use the "top" command in Terminal to get the correct numbers, I don´t think that 224 GB is correct.
