  • VE PRO - Question to other Sonar users

Hi all, I'm trying utilize multiple MIDI ports from Sonar 8.5 when connecting to the VE PRO server on an external slave machine. Its my understanding from reading the documentation that I should be able to have multiple VST's hosted in a single instance of VE PRO on the external PC. Whose MIDI data is routed on a per port basis (16 channels per port)

So far I'm having to load a new instance of VE PRO on the slave per VST I'm adding, and for the life of me I do not see the option to select a port on the MIDI track. Just the basic 16 channels.. (port 1)

I'm hoping that I'm overlooking something and this is not just a limitation of Sonar.. I know of freeware such as Maple MIDI and the like. Unfortunately none of the available options seem to be compatible with Vista/XP 64 bit.

  •  Does Sonar support VST3? If not, then you can only get 16 MIDI channels per port.

  • Hi DG.

My issue isn't really with the amount of channels per port. I'm not seeing any port selection options at all from within Sonar. Say I have a VE PRO x64 VST loaded in Sonar, when I create a midi track and assign the midis output to that VE PRO instance. I'm not seeing an option to point that MIDI track to say.. MIDI Port 2, Channel 1. The only options I'm presented with is the channel selection (1 - 16). Would that be due to Sonar 8.5 not being VST 3 compatible?

You will only see more than one port if you use a VST3 plug. So unless Sonar is VST3 compatible (is it?) then you will only see one port.
