  • Does VE Pro accept channel changes?

    Reason I ask is that I'm trying to use the new patches in Notion and all the commands for pp and fff etc. for example are working. But when I try to change to pizzicato which requires their patches to change to channel 10, it remains on channel 1.  Just trying to figure if its a Notion or a VE Pro or a VST 3 problem.

  • Are you sure you don't mean Program Change? Changing the MIDI Channel of an instrument would be very.... desrever.

    VST3 unfortunately does not handle MIDI Program Change messages. We are investigating the possibilities to make some workaround, bibut we have nothing ready yet. The VST2 plugin works fine with Program Change however.

  • Martin,

    **edit - new info**

    This works just like VST expression in Cubase.  You pick an articulation and then assign a midi channel to send the data out of during that expression.  BTW, it works with Cubase and VSL Pro running in VST3 mode, so it's not your software.  You can do this.  Whatever you would classify this, program change, midi-channel change -- it works with Cubase and VE Pro.

    Thanks. I think I've answered my own question.

    **earlier post**

    Normally I would have described it that way, but I'm using the description from their XML files that instruct the program to use a different channel. From their xml rule:

        <rule name="pizz">
                <if technique="pizzicato" />
                <channel-change channel = "10"/>
            </rule>

    They have built their EW multiinstruments that use up all 16 channels, and as you apply an articulation it jumps to a different channel and plays it.

    If I could use these instruments in VE Pro then I could simply use both computers I have and load up my entire EW orchestra. but since it only works within their program and not VE Pro I can't get any more samples to load (and I'm using 12 gigs of ram) which is another problem that I thnk they'll have to address.

    Do I simply lower the ports on VE Pro to get it to behave like VST2?
