DG....thanx for swift reply.......
Then why doesn't Vienna include an "IAC" option? That would work.....

Hi Martin.......
So this 16 channel limitation in Logic 9 will also effect a VE Pro instance coming from a slave computer? Because right now my slave PC is running a VE2 instance with 40+ mdi channels......using midi over lan and lightpipe...
thanx again,
SvK
What use is a 64 bit host if it can only access 16 midi channels?
Chances are with that few midi channels , you won't get past the 3.5 gig RAM anyway.......
Now in order to reconstruct that ONE winds / brass template on my slave PC.....I would need to run FIVE VE pro instances....
ohhhhhhhhh maaaaaannnnnnnnn
such beautiful well thought out software, and who doesn't get to use it properly? LOGIC users. The MOST used daw for TV / Film
siiighhhh

I mean you have made an awesome piece of software...Stunning in fact......I mean do you guys not want apple users? Why, do we always get the short end of the stick from Vienna? It breaks my heart.....
I expect you to find a work around...If that means including an IAC option for MAC users that makes timing suffer a tad (midi over lan's latency is just fine)...so be it.
best,
SvK
ps: The software is really, really great. That's why I'm so upset ;-)
Folllowing this discussion and realizing the problems for Logic people, I just went ahead and implemented support for external midi ports while in server mode. Timing will not be as tight as when using plugin midi, and of course offline bouncing will not work - but otherwise it plays and works fine.
The next update will include this functionality.
Thanks,
i don't quite get this:
when we use bidule the midi ports turn up in logic. why does this not work here? same thing with rewire, we can have bidule rewire for midi and have loads of ports and therefore channels....
so presumably what we need to be able to do is run VST plugs in logic. if we could run the plugs as VST would we then have the midi ports?

To continue this discussion with myself, I have also found a way to get around the timing issues. Looks like this is a nice solution after all.
that's great!
so no offline bounce but solid timing?
how easy is it to set up?
when do you think an update might materialize?
any issues you can foresee?

Right
how easy is it to set up?
Start server just like you do now, insert the plugin - then choose "IAC midi", "MidiOverLAN" or whatever midi you intend to use inside VE Pro as input port, and create an external midi track in Logic. Very simple.

Days.
any issues you can foresee?
Not at the moment.
Martin.....
Thanx so much, This is still a great leap forward for mac users, as we can say goodbye to audio cards on slaves and having to run insane amounts of the app. Your App truly is a milestone...Thanx!
sincerely,
SvK
Amen to that! Not just a help to logic users, but DP users also. [Any daw that uses AU for plugin vis].@Ashermusic said:
On behalf of Logic users everywhere, thank you Martin for going the extra mile.
