  • VE Pro - When the Host Crashes

If my host crashes while I am connected to one or more instances in the VE server, I am finding that the server does not disconnect the instance. So, when I re-launch my host, I cannot re-connect to the same instance because VE thinks it is already connected. But the plug-in within the host is not connected. Without a way to disconnect an instance from the VE side, I am stuck and am forced to exit the VE server and load my metaframe again. Am I missing something? An option to disconnect an instance from the VE Pro interface would fix this. I am loading the VE Pro server (actually both the 32 and 64-bit servers) and their respective metaframes before I launch my host. I am doing this because I want to be able to open and close projects freely. Does this all make sense? Thanks for any replies or insight. --Andy.

  • Just to clarify: this happens when the last-saved state of the VE plug-in is "not connected", but the plug has been connected since the last save. Therefore, when the host crashes and the project is re-opened, the VE plug-in state is "not connected". However, because the plug had been connected, and then the host crashed, the VE Pro server still shows the state of the instance as "connected".

  • You are right, if the host crashes while being connected - the instances will stay as "connected", because they simply have not received a command to shut down. It would be a bit unsafe to shut down an unpreserved instance after a period of inactivity. What if you accidentally unplugged a network cable - or (as in your case) the host software crashes. Then the instance would disappear and the data would be lost.

We might look into making a "force delete instance" option for the server, so you could manually kill a ghost instance when this occurs.

  • Thank you Martin. Yes, it would be most helpful because I have run into this a few times already and it is a bit of a pain to exit the server and load the whole metafile again. Great job on the software though, it is making my life so much easier.
