  • VE Pro & MIDI over LAN issues

As my master machine, I've got a Mac Pro quad-core running DP7. My slave machine is a MacBook Pro (2009). I'm running into trouble when trying to get the slave machine to recognize MIDI from MOL.

If I run VE Pro (either 32- or 64-bit) in standalone mode on the slave machine, VE Pro will load up and the MOL MIDI monitor will show dark red lights on the ports I've selected to receive data (meaning everything is ok). I can then send MIDI data to VE Pro and everything works great.

However, I run into a problem when I try to run VE Pro on the slave machine using plugin mode on my master machine (by adding an instrument track in DP and selecting VE Pro). In the server interface window, I click on "connect" and it loads up an instance on my slave machine just fine. But MIDI over LAN remains a dark grey on the ports I've selected to receive data on (meaning no MIDI data will get thru).

In standalone mode, I can open the preferences window and select which ports I want to receive MIDI data on. But I can't do that in plugin mode, since the preferences window is greyed out.

It seems as if running VE Pro in plugin mode doesn't communicate properly with MOL to let it know that the ports I want are available.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

  •  Sorry if I'm being a bit thick. but if you are using VE Pro in plugin mode, why are you trying to use MOL as well?

  • Hi,

DG is absolutely right.  VE Pro does all those things.  That's the point of it :).  It will host all your plug-ins, and send all midi from your DAW to the VE Pro server, which in turn will return audio over the network cable.  So all you need is your trusty gigabit connection and VE Pro.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks guys. I hadn't used VE 3 before, so I had no idea that MIDI data was taken care of by the plugin.
