  • VE Pro - Physical distance between the computers

    In short:

Is there any limitation / increase of latency in regard of the physical distance, the ethernet cable(s) has(have) to bridge ?

    best regards

    Matthias

    P.s.: Hope, my english is understandable . . .

No other than that imposed by Gigabit Ethernet (about 25m).  Shorter is usually better and I'd use at least CAT 5e or CAT 6 cables.

  • Many thanks for the qucik and clear reply, Tim !

that´s what I hoped for ( Distance is about 15 m to connect 2 Rooms).

  •  Actaully, I think it's more like 100m

the specs say 100 mt which is in detail 90 mt layed cable (full copper) + 2 x 5m patch cable (laced cable)

however 25 - 35 mt patch cable cat5e is safe but i would not recommend longer ones for gigabit

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Using good shielded Cat6 or Cat7 cables there is not really a problem to run 100m lengths. How far away do you want to go? VE Pro will actually work over the internet, trans-atlantic even, but due to the high latency you would get quite some clicks and pops :)
