  • Logic 9 Work Flow Road Block with VE PRO

I am disappointed to say that with the amazing benefits VE PRO brings to the table it introduces work flow problems in L9 that make it virtually useless in a large template within L9.

I only added 1 Omnisphere, 4 - K3.5's, and 1 ensemble that has  3 synths (Rapture, Dimension Pro and Zebra).  I have not even started implementing any part of my orchestral template and it has already made L9 unbelievably painful to use.

My L9 file was about 5 megs before and saved in about a half of a second.  Now it already is 14.5 megs and takes about 16-17 seconds to save.  Any function within L9 like duplicting a simple instrument track or loading a channel strip use to be virtually instantaneous now takes about 15-17 seconds to accomplish.  I love the concept of this plug, but the side effects unfortunately are worse than the current benefits for me.  Is this possibly a bug that can be improved, or is this the unfortunate side effects of adding more into a template and now the sequencer has a huge amount more data to keep track of?

  • Same issues here with Cubase. Some sessions take 55 seconds to save now. I think Kontakt is to blame for this. As soon as kontakt is out of VEP it saves at normal speed.

  • TOnight I will try and remove the K3.5 and see if it is noticeably faster.

  • The plot thickens.....

A friend of mine says his L9 file with a bunch of instruments and K3.5's is 19.5megs.....with K3.5's memory server turned off the L9 file drops to 4.2 megs and L9 behaves normal with no slowness.  So it is looking like perhaps there is an issue with the memory server and VE PRO.  I will test more later today.

If that is what your friend says, it sounds like there is rather an issue with Kontakt 3.5 and Logic. Kontakt 3.5 is pretty weird when it comes to Logic, since I have also experienced some very odd menu lags in Logic when Kontakt is inserted.

  • That is interesting. I'll test that theory. There are some interesting things going on with the memory server. (and where is the Kontakt 64bit mac version? Will K4 be 64bit)

  • Obviously nothing is definitive yet, but K3.5 and VE PRO definitely seem problematic with L9 in some fashion.

I am having some other problems as stated in another thread that my large template can not connect at all to the VE PRO server without crashing (I sent them a crash log to check out).  I have to remove many EXS's to get VE PRO to work in my larger template.

  • OK.....forget what my friend Mark said about the K3..5 memory server.  I tried it with the memory server off and no difference.  Then I replaced all my K3.5 with instances of Omnisphere.....something like 5 or 6 in all different VE PRO instances and L9 ran great.  There was no hint of sluggish performance and the file size was much smaller as what you would expected.

So I agree with Martin and all that this is definitely pointing to K3.5.
