    I don't know if this is a noob question or not, but I have been trying to set up VSL and Digital Performer so that each midi track plays a different instrument within VSL, and what happens instead is that whichever instrument is selected, is the instrument that all of the midi tracks play. 

    I have the midi tracks to play "Vienna Symphonic 1-1, 1-2, 1-3...." etc. Is there a better way that I am not aware of? Please help, as i have sunken too much money into this library, to not be able to have this one simple function.

    Ryan.. are you using Vienna Instruments or Vienna Ensemble with DP? Both of these will provide as many separate midi channels as you may require. If you're using Vienna Instruments with DP each instance will operate on its own midi channel. When using Vienna Ensemble make sure to specify on the top left side of the individual VI within the VE *PlugIn Midi 1*. ..then.. choose the appropriate Midi channel to the right of that. If you don't do that, all channels on the VE will default to Omni. So in short you must make 2 Midi commands when using the Vienna Ensemble to allocate that channel to 1 Midi channel with D.Performer.

    I am using vienna instruments. Does this mean that i have to load an entirely new "Vienna Instruments Plugin" instrument for each midi channel to work? I saw in the tutorial video that there were several different instruments (an entire orchestra it seemed) running off of separate midi channels. Does that mean that each of those instruments was a different plugin?

    Yes, if you are just using the Vienna Instruments- each instance runs on only 1 Midi channel. Even if DP gives you the option of using Vienna Instruments Midi channels 1-16 it is irrelevant in this case. Just choose Midi channel #1 for each Vienna Instrument that you use.

    It is much easier to use Vienna Ensemble with DP and takes only 1 audio track for 16 channels of Vienna Instruments rather than16 Audio Instruments tracks for Vienna Instruments per se. I think there are tutorials on this site for this.

    How about using VSL with Cubase (SX3)? Will I have to open one VSL plugin for each midi channel here, too? For example the EWQLSO does work with 16 midi channels in one opened application. Why doesn´t VSL work the same way?

    Ryan,

    My own computer specs are such that I can barely run one channel of VSL, so I haven't had the opportunity to experiment.

    Nevertheless, may I suggest that Vienna Ensemble might be more suited to what you are trying to do?

    Use Vienna Ensemble, if you want up to 16 MIDI channels per plugin.
