  • Finding reviews of Vienna Suite

Although i have demo'd this and think its amazing... i would still like to see other expert opinions of this plugin set. Especially in comparison to other plugin bundles. Does anyone know of any review of Vienna Suite other than by Jeremy Dahl of ProRec.com?

    Hi Nilwil

First of all: Welcome in the family of VSL

I'm working now with these PlugIns for quite a while. I'm just now producing some music for my tutorial 2009.

One of the pieces has the following orchestration:

    • Organ
    • Flutes (Flute Ens3 + Flute1)
    • Oboes (Oboe Ens3 + French Oboe)
    • Clarinets (Clarinet Ens3 + Clarinet Eb)
    • English Horns (EH1 + EH2)
    • Bassoons (Bassoon Ens3 + Bassoon)
    • Contrabassoon
    • 1st Trumpets (Trumpet Ens 6 + Tumpet Ens4)
    • 2nd Trumpets (Trumpet Ens 6 + Tumpet Ens4)
    • Horns (Horn Ens 8 + Tumpet Ens4)
    • Tombones (Trombone Ens 3 + Bass Trombone)
    • Tuba (Tuba + Cimbasso)
    • Contra Tuba
    • Timpani (Timpani A)
    • Bass Drum
    • Piatti
    • Cymbal (Cymbal A)
    • 1st violins (SoloViol + Chamber Viol + Orchestra Viol)
    • 2nd violins (SoloViol + Chamber Viol + Orchestra Viol)
    • Violas (SoloViola + Chamber Viola + Orchestra Viola)
    • Cellos (Chamber Cello + Orchestra Cello)
    • Double basses (Chamber DB + Orchestra DB)

So there are around 40 audio tracks playing at the same time (tutti). Each of them contains a PowerPanner and an EQ in minimum. Lots of the tracks also contain in addition to the first two effects a compressor , a limiter or a an Exciter.

    Why putting all this first?

    1. The sound is clean and transparent at any time even if all instruments are playing (try this situation with other effects).

    2. The CPU is not blowing up even if I used 4 Convolution Reverbs (estimate yourself the total number of effects)

    3. There is a huge offer of phantastic presets (for EQ, Compressor etc) for each VSL instrument.

No need to fiddle around hours and hours.

    4. All knobs and parameters do have a good effect on the sound.

The plugins seems to work without any problem with my Cubase Vista 64

    5. Last but not least one of the best argument: Compare the price with other Effect Suites and you will have no more question. [:)]

If you like to have it: I will publish the mix of the mentioned piece above as soon as possible here.

    Best

  • There was a very good review in either MusicTech or FutureMusic magazine. Have a look at their website, I am sure you will find it. I through out that magazine during a clear out of my studio.

They did give it a really good review!!
