In a score it is standard to note two voices of an instrument (e.g. woodwinds, brass, strings except violins) in a single stave. I'm using Cubase 4 studio as a sequencer/notation program with VI special edition. The two different voices of an instrument/track/stave are usually related to channel 1 and 2. Is there any possibility to play-back both voices in legato mode, allocating these internal channels to separate midi channels? Or is there no other way than to split up the single track into two independent ones (which would be quite uncomfortable both for composing and reading)?
Many thanks in advance for your helpful suggestions

Cubase: two voices in a single stave - legato mode

Hi Michel,
Here is what I would do in your case:
- Select "any" in the track's midi channel selector.
- Open the score editor of the concerned midi parts.
- Select all the notes of one voice and assign it a midi channel : you can set the value of your choice in the info line (there's a "channel" parameter in it) right above the main score edit area (if you don't see it click on the third icon from the left at the top of the score editor). Then do the same for each voice.
Everything should play fine. When you select "any" as the track's channel, Cubase tells the track's midi channel *not* to overide the midi channel of the individual notes.

Open a Vienna Ensemble 2 or 3. Put two VIs into the VE > Select CH1 for VI1 and CH2 for VI2.
Now select (insert) VE into you desired Midi - Track with the two voices (first voice with the assigned midi channel 1 and the other midi channel 2).
Voilà
