  • Sample Rate Help

Hi - I've just purchased some VSL libraries. (They arrive on Thursday!) I've been reading that they are recorded at 44.1k. I would like to purchase another sample library (Drums of War from Cinesamples) and they are recorded at 48k. Can I use the 48k sample library at the same time as the VSL? Can Logic use samples (different sample players of course) at different rates?

  •  welcome lehmannmusic,

VSL samples are recorded 96kHz 32bit, carefully denoised, edited and in a last step downsampled to 44.1 kHz / 24 bit using a proprietary high class algorithm - so the quality of a resampled output exclusively depends on the quality of the algorithm your host is using (this is an occasion where often taste matters ...)

AFAIK all hosts allow to use libraries with sample rates other than the project settings and most people agree upsampling is less critical than downsampling ...

    hth, christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Yes - thank you. I called support for Logic and it does indeed allow different sample libraries with different rates.
