  • Aftertouch ??

I am having so much fun setting up my controller to work with VI.

I have an XY touch pad on a novation keyboard, to control Vel XFade and Attack simultaneously. Its incredible.

But what I am struggling to set-up is AFTERTOUCH to control cell cross-fading. I want a cell to hold samples with and without vibrato. Then by pressing a little harder on the keyboard, for a crossfade into vibrato samples.

Have you implemented aftertouch as one of the controller options?
I can't seem to find it.

    Thanks

  • Bump here as well - great question!!!

  • Good point! Aftertouch should be added to the next version of the VI.
    (This is a big omission)

Here's a workaround (if you use Logic):
Use a Transformer to convert incoming C-press (= aftertouch) to a CC number of your choice (eg 3). Set the Slot crossfader to Source:ControlChange and Controller:3

Cable the transformer to your Audio Inst and .... aftertouch = vibrato!
(just tried it - it works fine)

  • Any work around for our Cubase users???

  • ** polite bump**

  • (((Another polite and respectful bump)))

Herb...Christian...any plans to include Aftertouch in a VI update?

  • If I know VSL, I would say it is already developed and some of their beta testers are checking now as we speak. [:D]

    Rob

  • My guess is that they are all on vacation at the moment. Only Herb is responding to the occassional post.

  • Hi guys,

sorry for the late reply. You´re correct, Aftertouch is not on the list of controllers in the VI yet. I´m sure there is a way to re-interpret Aftertouch as another MIDI controller in every Sequencer, unfortunately I don´t have a keyboard with Aftertouch with me here in the US. But I´m sure that the respective support of your host application will be of assistance on this issue [:)]

Including Aftertouch is also on the to-do-list for the upcoming updates.

    Thanks for your patience,

    Paul

It almost works like Logical Edit (if you are familiar with that function)

    From the Cubase Manual:

    The Input Transformer
This function allows you to selectively filter out and change MIDI data
coming to a MIDI track before it is recorded. The Input Transformer is
very similar to the Transformer MIDI effect, but contains four independent
“modules”, for which you can set up different filtering and actions
if you like. You can activate any or all of these four modules.
Here are some of the things the Input Transformer allows you to do:
    • Set up split keyboard combinations for recording left and right hands separately.
    • Turn a controller like a foot pedal into MIDI notes (for playing bass drum the
    right way).
    • Filter out one specific type of MIDI data on one MIDI channel only.
    • Turn aftertouch into any controller (and vice versa).
    • Invert velocity or pitch.
    (...)

    Opening the Input Transformer:

To open the Input Transformer for a MIDI track, select the track and
click the Input Transformer button in the Inspector to open the pop-up
    menu:
    • Select Global to make Input Transformer settings that affect all MIDI
inputs (and thereby all MIDI tracks).
    • Select Local to make Input Transformer settings for this track only.
In both cases, the button lights up and the Input Transformer window
    opens.

  • Thanks for jumping in, Michael!

  • ....and thank you Paul for the info that Aftertouch is on the to-do list.
So many of us are used to pushing down for vibrato, this will be a really welcome addition.

  • well...? It's two and a half years later since this thread. Is Aftertouch STILL not a selectable controller for VI. Maybe i missed something, but looked everywhere on the interface and still cant find it.

    Any news?

  • Can't you assign a controller No. in host sequencer to work for aftertouch and select the same Controller No. to recieve CC data in VI?
