  • Can't turn off my Mac because I can't quit Vienna Ensemble

The subject says it all. I cannot shut down my Mac Pro or put it in sleep mode because I cannot shut down the Vienna Ensemble software. The Quit option in the menu is grayed out. It simply will not let me quit.

When I ctrl-click on the Vienna Ensemble in the dock, the "Quit" option doesn't do anything, and I am surprised that there is no option to "Force Quit."

This happened after using the Special Edition and Special Edition Plus in Sibelius 5.2, when I was quitting all my apps and getting ready to shut down. When it failed to shut down, I tried going back into Sibelius and loading up the sounds as before, then quitting everything again. Still no go. VE is just sittin' pretty, with no option to quit or force quit.

Just thought someone should know about this. I will probably hard-power everything off if I don't hear anything soon.

    Oh, my specs are...

    • Model Name: Mac Pro
    • Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
    • Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    • Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    • Number Of Processors: 2
    • Total Number Of Cores: 8
    • L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
    • Memory: 2 GB
    • Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
    • Boot ROM Version: MP31.006C.B05
    • SMC Version: 1.25f4

  • Hi. Is the Apple Menu greyed out as well?  Force Quit is there. Have you clicked on the desktop first?

  • Ah ha! Didn't realize you can find it there too... I'm used to finding the Force Quit option a different way (obviously). Many thanks...

  • Option/command escape works from any program, not just the Finder.

For some reason Core.midi.framework requires force-quitting a lot on my system, and I end up using that command way too often.
