  • 64 bit PCIe audio card for XP64 running VI

I was wondering what audio card options are available that have XP64 drivers. Has anyone had experience with the RME PCIe sound cards?

I'm using a Multiface II. However, I'm using the PCI slot, not the PCIe. It is working fine.

Can a PCI card work in a PCIx slot?

  • I use a MOTU 2408 mk III PCI-e and it works very well.

I can't recommend anything MOTU for XP64. I'm certainly not impressed with their Micro Lite drivers, and have no reason to expect that their audio drivers are any better.

  • Why can't you recommend anything MOTU for XP 64?

    I have:

    MOTU  2408 mk3

    a MOTU Traveler

    a MOTU MIDI XT Express

    and they work very fine.

    So why?

I can only tell my own experiences. I have only ever owned two pieces of MOTU kit. The first, a MIDI timepiece didn't work properly. The second, the Micro Lite has many problems. I also know that MOTU support is much more OSX orientated than XP64 or Vista, so unless I had actually used a device in XP64, I wouldn't recommend them.

The three main things that need to be tested for an audio device are:

    1. That the drivers are not flaky and work at low latencies.
    2. That any virtual mixer included works properly in a 64bit environment.
    3. That when using more than 4Gb RAM, the virtual mixer doesn't cause problems.

I have tested non of the above, so I can't recommend MOTU. If you have tested all of this, then you can recommend it.
