  • Saxophone Piece

Short piece for Saxophones and Vibraphone

Done with Sibelius 5.2 and Vienna Insturments Tenor Sax, Alto Sax, Doubel Bass.

Vibraphone comes from Sibelius Sound Essentials

    Hello Stefan

    You are asking for comments.

It seems to me that you used diminuendo/crescendo articulations for the saxophones.

You can change between these two articulations by using the A/B switch of the

Vienna Instrument (have a look at the keyswitches)

Unfortunately the Vienna Instrument select the crescendo without doing anything.

That happend with your Saxophones as well. As a saxophon player I can tell you:

It is very unnatural for wind instruments to play this way round (a crescendo on each note).

So try once to switch on "diminuendo" (by pressing B0?). The whole sax-part will

sound more natural - I'm sure.

Another possibility is to try the sustain articulation with the saxophones.

Perhaps you will post us the result... [:D]

    Good luck

    Beat

  • Hello Beat,

    thanks for the advice.

It confirms to me that - no matter how good any samples are -  music is a real life thing and playing an instrument is invaluable knowledge. Thats why I'm currently learning the cello. About winds I have in fact very little knowledge.[:P]

Currently I study the examples in Samuel Adlers "A Sudiy of orchestration" and try to arrange them (as far as my Vienna licenses support it) with Sibelius and Vienna Insturments. That is quite a good approach to both, Insturments and Samples.[8-|]

I will keep up working and will post the results.

    Thanks Stefan

Natural? Interesting question! If the music is not written to to played live, I see no reason to be "natural" if the result is interesting, artistic etc. Using sw instruments should not be based ONLY to emulation of human ways of playing instruments.

    Hello Igrohn

    I agree totally - I'm experimenting myself ...

Nevertheless - I think that my upper answer sould get a place too - even if it may be a very common one.

In does in fact sound rather repetitive.

I can see that now pretty clearly, Beat having pointed out my overusage of the "crecendo default".

    I keep working on it.

Now added Double Bass Layer from Vienna Solo Strings and Drums (EZDrummer).

Used more different samples for the saxophone part.
