  • Sibelius + Nuendo on Mac Pro - triggering VE3

    Hi guys,

    Well I'm about to upgrade my setup.

    I've browsed the forum quite a bit, but couldn't find a clear answer.

    The question is;

    Can I use Sibelius 5 to trigger VE3 through Nuendo 4?

    The setup in detail would be;

    * Main computer = an 8core Mac Pro

       This one is running SIBELIUS 5 --> triggering VE3 running under NUENDO 4.

    * Second computer (PC running 64bit Vista) --> 3x VE3 as slaves.

    Is there some kind of virtual MIDI cable needed?

    Anyone with experience on this topic?

    Many thanks in advance!

    -Emanuel

  • Hi Emanuel!

    You can trigger VE3 directly from Sibelius, but it's also possible the way you want to do it. You will need a MIDI loopback device (like MIDI Yoke) for that. Be aware that you cannot load the dedicated sound sets if you choose a virtual MIDI port as MIDI-out. However, there is also a way to solve this problem. Open the sound set you need with the sound set editor or a text editor and change the entry PatchLoadMechanism from "Fixed" to "MIDI". Save the sound set with a different name. Now you can communicate from Sibelius over the MIDI loopback device with the MIDI-in in Nuendo. Vienna Ensemble and the modified sound set takes care of the articulation changes.

    Best wishes,
