  • VE2 + Finale 2009? + other question

Okay, so I have my Vienna Ensemble to play thru Finale 2009 and it works, but how do I make a keyswitch? Do I hit the keyswitch in that octave, or on transposed instruments does that keyswitch move? Also, I'm having trouble downloading Woodwinds II, it says that I need to install the package Englisch Horn 2 Basic* can anybody clear this up?

                                                                                                                     Thanks

It's not very easy if you want to use the Expression Tool, as suggested in Finale 2009 online Help:

    To add Keyswitches as Expressions

    1. Click the Expression Tool and Double-Click the document. The Expression Selection dialog box appears.
    2. Click Create. Or, you could also select an existing Expression you would like to define to a Keyswitch and click Edit.
    3. Type the desired text. Set the font, size, style, make it hidden, or apply other text attributes.
    4. Click the Playback Tab. The playback options appear.
    5. From the Type Menu, choose Dump. The Playback Data Dump dialog box appears.
    6. For Number of Units, type 3. We will be sending 3 pieces of Data.
    7. For the top Data box, type 144. This is the message for Note On.
    8. For the second Data box, type the MIDI Note number for the Keyswitch. For example, Arco = 0, Pizz = 5 in Finale GPO).
    9. In the third data box, type 127. Since the note is below the instrument’s range, it will not sound.
    10. Click OK, OK, Select, and OK to add the Expression. The performance style will change upon reaching this point during playback.

I think you could more easily do as follows: add a staff, assign it the same channel of the "keyswitched" instrument, notate on it the keyswitches and then hide it.

  • Hi... Are we not supposed to use this file (Finale Human Playback Settings for Vienna Instruments Special Edition) which could be find here: http://vsl.co.at/en/68/375/460/295.htm ????? Alain LeBlond

  • I have recently installed VE2, and when I try to pull up a VSTi, it wants to connect to a slave computer or something. I thought the player would just come up. I am doing something wrong? Can someone help?

Alain is absolutely right here. You download this file and then import the HP preferences from this file into Finale (there is a detailed description how to do this together with the Finale file).

I have tried this one with Finale 2009 and VE 2 and it works for me.

Nota Bene! The Finale HP prefs supplied by Vienna ONLY works for Vienna Special Edition (so far at least). If you have any other VSL library you will need to edit and add more techniques to the current set. This is fairly simple. If anyone is interested I can try to explain how.

I forgot about this! You are right!

HP for VI takes care of keyswitches automatically...
