  • In the flash-video you get a detailed view in real time of all the articulation changes which are shown at the bottom of the screen. The bottom wave is of course the overall audio wave result. The horizontal lines on top of various length are the notes, the little lines beneath of even length are the articulation changes and they correspond to the names that shows in big at the bottom. Occasionally you see a group of long squeezed vertical lines, those are the volume changes, it is possible in some case the velocity changes has been assigned instead, depending on the passage, at least from what I can see. This is why I said Michael Hula will be better help with this. Make sure you have the complete image of the flash video. Bear with me, a lot will be talked about and answered in time, until Michael chimes in I'm not sure if I could be much more help, but I could still try.

    Hi Jay, Basically, all it is, is a question of precision, so you should not have any trouble with this, cutting or changing the articulation length at the right place and changing at the right time, I'd say 99% of make it work well is the fine tuning, but you know this so well....

  •  Thanks Guys - really appreciate your efforts here.  It is making me 're-think' my approach to Matrixes.   Given this example I am thinking more along the lines of 'Presets' (groups of Matixes) and as much as possible standardizing these presets to each section (strings - Orch, AP, Chamber, solo - WW's, Brass, etc.)  Now I have seperate matixes (and midi tracks) for legatos, short/ong notes, dyn, etc...

  • Be sure to check out Beat Kaufmann's site for useful standardized presets


  • Maybe I should mention that the matrix in these videos were the result of the pieces articulations needed, and not vice versa, in other words they were custom made for each piece.

  • Currently there is violin, clarinet and tenor trombone. The next 3 will be bass trumpet, contra bassoon and oboe d'amore.

  • When you click on the products page, if you select Solo Strings, Woodwinds I, or Brass I, in the page that opens, under the product info you should see "Video Tutorials". There are only tuts available for Solo Violin, Clarient, and Trombone at the moment.
