  • S1, Altiverb or both for Depth?

Is S1 good for placing things near or far (depth) in the mix? Or is it basically for panning a stereo image? I know one technique is to use two Altiverbs (convolution) to place things farther back. How do you change reflection time on an altiverb to do this? With wetness?

Do you apply S1 to audio files after they're recorded or set up a bus within Gigastudio? Same with Altiverb?

    Thanks folks,

    Dave Connor

  • The Waves S1 is a very clever panning device, it is able to control stereo-width and panorama-position at the same time. It has nothing to do with reverberation, though.

For our latest demos, all instruments where bounced to a single wave-file each, panned with a S1 in each track, and fed to an AltiVerb or two via AUX-sends. For some instruments it proved to be very convincing to add some TruVerb early-reflections right in the track.

I for one like to have lots of dry signal in my mixes, others are convinced that the reflections and/or reverbs should be all wet. Let your ears decide ... [:)]
