    I've had a couple of emails from friends asking me about [URL=http://vsl.co.at/en/211/442/344/350/1030/643.htm]these.[/URL] None of them can play the videos, and neither can I. What program is needed for these please? I think a simple wmv would be much more simple, as it is with the previous generation of video demos.

  • .swf files are Shockwave Flash movies. Just download one of many free players for these......

    I'm not a Cubase user, so I'd like to ask: what am I looking at in the right-hand side of the movie? I see an audio waveform below - is the rest controller data?

    Also, is this just one Matrix or a large Preset? I can't see enough detail in the VI interface to tell how you are switching between articulations. If you'd be generous enough to share some info about this, I'd be a grateful pupil!

    Just listened to your violin, clarinet and trombone video compositions-- great stuff!!!  

    Could you speak a bit about how you use the arpeggio and run samples?   I have never really learned how to get the most out of these samples and you make them sound terrific.

    Jay, can you see the left side of the player? It is cut off on my system, and this is where most of the interesting things are. That and the Perform page. Great idea, sure to be really useful to newbies, but could be even better. Is it possible to see more of the player, Guy?

    I had that too, then noticed a button in my player to widen the screen. I'm on Mac using SWF&FLV player - it has a "FIT" button. Whatever you have, just look for options.

    Timkiel's suggestion to use a browser gives one the full wide view right away.

  • In the flash-video you get a detailed view in real time of all the articulation changes which are shown at the bottom of the screen. The bottom wave is of course the overall audio wave result. The horizontal lines on top of various length are the notes, the little lines beneath of even length are the articulation changes and they correspond to the names that shows in big at the bottom. Occasionally you see a group of long squeezed vertical lines, those are the volume changes, it is possible in some case the velocity changes has been assigned instead, depending on the passage, at least from what I can see. This is why I said Michael Hula will be better help with this. Make sure you have the complete image of the flash video. Bear with me, a lot will be talked about and answered in time, until Michael chimes in I'm not sure if I could be much more help, but I could still try.

    Hi Jay, Basically, all it is, is a question of precision, so you should not have any trouble with this, cutting or changing the articulation length at the right place and changing at the right time, I'd say 99% of make it work well is the fine tuning, but you know this so well....

  •  Thanks Guys - really appreciate your efforts here.  It is making me 're-think' my approach to Matrixes.   Given this example I am thinking more along the lines of 'Presets' (groups of Matixes) and as much as possible standardizing these presets to each section (strings - Orch, AP, Chamber, solo - WW's, Brass, etc.)  Now I have seperate matixes (and midi tracks) for legatos, short/ong notes, dyn, etc...

  • Be sure to check out Beat Kaufmann's site for useful standardized presets


  • Maybe I should mention that the matrix in these videos were the result of the pieces articulations needed, and not vice versa, in other words they were custom made for each piece.

  • Currently there is violin, clarinet and tenor trombone. The next 3 will be bass trumpet, contra bassoon and oboe d'amore.
