    Dear All,

                I have Vienna Ensemble and I can’t get it to run in Stand Alone mode.  It works fine as a VST inside Sonar 7.0.2 PE.  When I open it in Stand Alone I get a “Can’t Start Audio” message.  What’s going wrong?  Also, when I load the 25 strings Appassionata patch that gives you strings across the keyboard, whether in Vienna Ensemble or as an instance in Vienna Instruments, the latency is really bad.  What can I do to improve this?  I have a MOTU PCI 424 with buffers set to 256.

    Hi Kevin. Could be something wrong in the VE's Audio settings: open Options -> Preferences and check the Audio settings for audio device, sample rate and latency setting. Also make sure the right MIDI device is selected. HTH.

    I got V E to work in Stand-Alone. 

         My problems seem to be limited to the use of the App Strings Sus patch in the App Strings 25 subfolder.  That’s where I get latency.  It may be that it’s just a massive patch.  Any help with this specific problem would be useful.  I’m using ASIO with a MOTU PCI424 set to 256 buffers.  Would WDM be better in Sonar 7 PE? 

         If I use the 0 option in the latency configure, do I have to hit "reconnect" after checking the box in the V E Service?  It doesn't  seem to make any difference.

    Are you sure it's really latency, and not just a slow attack on the patch itself? I've noticed a feeling of latency on some of the other instruments, which is actually the result of a slow attack portion on the sample itself... I don't have App strings, though... Just a thought.

    Perhaps, other V I Apassionata owners could try the sus patch within the  25 folder and let me know what heir latency experience is?

    I tried that patch and it does have a very slow attack. Notes tend to subtly fade in rather than speaking quickly. However it's not adding to the computer latency, it's a musical lateness rather than a computer-originated one. To put it another way, as the English drummer Clem Cattini once said on a session, "Can I have the strings a bit sooner in the cans please?"
