  • Appassionata legato

Hi Guys.  Can anyone give me an opinion on the App. Legato patches (Those from the standard edition not the extended)

Am writing a piece using the se edition strings and finding the legatos a bit straight for this particular project. Particularly if you follow on from the portamento patch which at the end of a slide has lovely vib....

Wondered how the legato worked in appassionata...is it smooth?

    Kind regards

    Hi,

the appasionata legatos are very smooth,I made a demo where I use a lots of them:valse triste

I didn't use velocity x-fade as I had not enough time to practice this method yet, but in my opinion the legato strings sound quite organic.

There is also a great demo by Christian Kardeis, Anaheim Appasionatas

which actually inspired me to do my valse triste, I even have 'stolen' the string pattern at the beginning, sorry Christian by the way, but I think in film score related music this may be allowed, as this is also a pattern that Danny Elfman uses a lot, or even Mozart in his g-minor symphony;-)

  • Hi Christof. Thanks for your reply.  Valse triste is an excellent composition. Beautiful lyrical theme.

Do you have just the standard edition or the full?

I too have heard that string pattern alot. :-)

  • Hi,

I have the full library, but the legato patches I used in the demo are also in the standard library.

    all the best,

    christof

  •  Thanks Christof. I may have to make a purchase then :-)

By the way - english wine is getting better. If you have a chance try a red from the Denbies vineyard :-)

Don't believe that! ... there's still the German humour!

    Greetings from Germany,

  •  Hi Christof.  Just one more question.  The faster moving string figure that you mentioned you"borrowed" :-)  Was that an articulation from the standard library? Or perhaps the up down patch from the extended?

    Regards

    Matthew

  • Hi mozart!(I allways wanted to write this once in my musical life)

The fast string patch is from the standard appasionata, Repetition performances Spiccato,9 repetitions; the patch name is:

Vl-20_perf-rep_spi (for Violins II to Cello I used the same patch)

All other instruments(brass to percussion etc.) are from the SE.

I have been asked to send the midi file and the presets to some people, if you want send me a PM and I'll forward the files to you (if you use Logic I can send you the Logic project).

    ciao

    christof

  • Could someone please remind me witch aliverb impulse response is used on Christian Kardeis, Anaheim Appasionatas ? Thanks in advance

  • Many many thanks Christof  for your time. I will PM you .  Thanks

I think the Appassionata Strings, both I and II, are up there with Epic Horns as being the most amazing things VSL has ever created. Seriously, you can't go wrong with them. And if you follow the video tutorials to get yourself up to speed on how to best work with them, you'll be up and running in no time. - Kerry

  •  Hi Kerry. Thanks for your message.

Are the epic horns included in the Special edition / extended version?  I think I read that somewhere....

    Regards

    Matthew

  • Hi there,

the special edition contains some basic patches of the epic horns, but they are VERY useful even if you can't have all the patches from the full epic horns library.
