if it is a problem with the disk (reading data) the following should also make troubles:
- open the disk/folder that troubles you (eg. strings) and copy one or more larger files to a temprary folder eg. on your C:\ drive
- if this process also needs more time as expected the disk itself (or a connector) has problems
- rightclick *my computer* - select *manage* - expand *event viewer* and select the protocol types
- if any red or yellow signs show up read what the messages say (doubleclick to open them)
any possible heat-problem occured (eg. a fan died)?
any configaration changes happened lately? additional devices attached? unusual high CPU usage?
or: a simple midi loop occured on this slave so crapping the whole system?

Thanks Christian,
To answer a few questions. No heat problem. No config changes on this PC. No new devices attached. CPU seems normal.
What do you mean by a midi loop?
I'll check the other items above.
To get throught the last 10% of this film score - can I transfer as many of the strings over to the C Drive and just run it from there for the next 2 weeks. After the film is done send my PC to my computer builder person??
I am running a 'checking disk' on that drive now (with the 'scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' ticked) - would that help?
I don't want to do this but if all above doesn't resolve this - what are the steps for putting the Orch strings and AP 1 and 2 on another slave I have here (and is not as 'busy' as my 'strings' PC slave. Can I just send over the library folders from one PC to the other over the network? How would I handle the Synchrosoft licencing on the transfer.
I don't want to do this but I really don't have time to send this PC back (I'll be without it for min 5-7 days) - that will kill my schedule on this film.
