  • Can't Install SE on Mac Pro

I bought a Mac Pro 3.0Ghz machine so I could better work with libraries such as Vienna Instruments.  I struggled for a long time with a dual processor G-4 Power Mac and have been anxiously awaiting this new setup so I can work on orchestral scores.  I have Special Edition which could never run well on the previous Mac along with East/West, Garritan, and other libraries. (Too many notes, as the saying goes).  :-)

In addition to having read all the installation instructions and having watched all the videos, I downloaded the latest install for MacIntel machines from the Vienna User Area.  I also have done an installation before for the G4, and I know how to use the Directory Manager.  All of my authorization is in order through Syncrosoft, etc.  The player comes up, but no matter how much I try, I cannot get any presets to appear.

I have everything but the sounds.

No presets, no instruments, no library, even though it's right there on the external drive, and the Directory Manager "points to it."

I'm sure VSL folks must be busy, because after 4 support requests, all I've received is a note back telling me to use the Directory Manager.  This is old news.  I need some real trouble-shooting help because at this point, I should be making music.

Can anyone, within or outside of the Vienna organization, help me get my VSL SE to work?

    Hello bsafir,

did you restart your computer after assigning the content in the Directory Manager? Otherwise the changes won´t be effective.

Which versions of the Syncrosoft LCC and the VI are you using?

Please make sure to install the latest updates:

    Syncrosoft LCC

    VI Software

    Best,

    Paul

  • I've had the same thing myself a few times .. although in my case it's been due to me moving files around that should have been elsewhere. First thing to do is to run the repair permissions .. in case something changed that shouldn't have done. ... Next .. are you running under and admin account ... rather than a family account or something .. cos that can cause some problems too .. most likely you're running in admin. ........ You might try to remove all the listings from the directory manager and then assign the folders again .. I've known this to help out particularly wen installing the VE :P ...... Any custom data will need to be in your shared/VSL Custom Data folder now .. rather than the old one which was not in the shared directory. .............. I'm pretty sure VSL will get back to you on this if any of these things don't solve it. ..... I imagine that the problem is the directory manager .. and that you need to remove all info and put it in again. Clearly the VI player is not looking in the right place for the data so give this a try and tell us how it went.

  • Yes, I restarted the computer (more than once now) after assigning content in the Directory Manager.  I'm using LCC Version 5.2.24.0.  I'm using Special Edition 1.14.

  • I have done each of those things...nothing has worked.

  • is the custom data folder set properly? does the used location have read&write permissions? have you already verfied/repaired permissions on your system volume (disk utility)?

are you running any antivirus/firewall application or have set OS X built in firwall to stealth mode?

does it apply to the stand-alone or the plugin or both?

btw: it seems you have 2 accounts here - shouldn't we merge them?

  • Almost stupid question .. but are you definitely using the VI software for Intel Mac .. rather than PPC .. although I can't imagine you can actually install the PPC version. IT's quite difficult to pin down your problem without knowing much more about your system and how it runs. And how you installed everything. (FYI .. your running the Vienna Instruments software .. not the 'Special Edition' ... the SE is the name of the Samples .. not the software. .. Just to save future confusion)

  • Customs data seet properly.  Read and write permissions set properly.  Verified/repaired permissions on system volume.  Not running antivirus/firewall application.   Applies to standalone and plugin both.  Two accounts can be merged - I could not change email address on old account in which the email is no longer valid.  New account has proper email address.  Today is day five of not being able to install.

  • Problem solved:

I re-installed the entire library (samples).  Now it works.

  • thanks for letting us know
