Design my studio!
At the moment I make music using: Miroslav Philarmonik Ableton Live 6 Macbook 1.83Ghz 2GB ram I'm taking my music making a lot more seriously since I purchased these things. I'm pleased with the results they have given, but I've gotten to the stage where each has failed me and it's seriously time to ugrade my sounds library, DAW and computer to something more proffessional (I'm sure the linear sequencing on Live6 is there as a gimick and not meant to be taken seriously!). I'm hoping the droves of proffessionals who frequent these hallowed forums might offer me a word or two of advice. After Christmas, I'm planning on buying the following: Vienna Instruments Brass 1+2 (or one or the other to begin with. I want them all eventually) Logic Pro 8 Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz 2GB ram Is this a good set up. I'd rather buy a desktop but I'm living abroad at the moment and very occassionally need to transport it. I read somewhere that high ram is more important than high processing speed when sequencing samples. Is this true? Any help is extremely useful - it is going to cost me best part of $4,500!

Hi. SOrry no one replyed. Well I'm new here and am planning on doing that download thing when it comes out, but I'm sure I can help you at least a little bit.
Ok, I don't use a Mac, but it should be basically the same as a PC as far as RAM and stuff goes.
You'll want both actually. A lot of RAM for quick loading and sound handling and a fast processor for exicuting tasks and controlling all the commands and stuff that goes on in the DAW/VST(s) you're using.
You might also want to invest in an external SATA hard drive to hold the samples in as well. I don't know exactly why, but I don't think it's too good of an idea to have all the samples in one place on the main hard drive. Well I hope that helps I'm no pro or anything, but I think I know a thing or two.

Well I'm no pro or anything like that, but I think I may be able to help.
You'll want both a lot of RAM and a fast proccessor. RAM to handle sounds and a processor to handle all thecommands and stuff from the DAW and VST(S).
I don't know how much RAM the software can take. Probably 2 or 3 tops, so having something with like 8 gigs won't be very useful right now. Well you also might want to get an external SATA hard drive as well to hold the sampels. This'll be better than having them sit on your main hard drive. Well, I hope that helps.
