Apologies for the lame question - I'm upgrading from the Pro Edition to VI and need to know if VI samples stream or simply load into memory. If they stream then it looks like it's time to get some fast SATA drives, if they're in memory then I'm hoping FW400/800 will suffice.
Can anyone chime in with their thoughts?
Many thanks.

VI samples - do they stream or live in memory?

DG, For my clarification and understanding, you are saying that the VI engine does in fact stream audio samples and only stores the initial attack samples in RAM? Then do I assume that the RAM dump feature's purpose is to release from RAM only the initial attack samples that are not being used? That when we load RAM up to the currently approx 3.0 GB limit, we are loading up RAM with the initial attack samples only before we do a dump (optimize)? The reason I ask is that when I'm using VI, I do not see any drive activity from the drive where my VI is located while my composition sequence is playing. Please clarify....... Chuck Green

You are correct.
