  • Cellos and Basses Don't Load Properly in VE

Hello everyone, I am using VE as a stand alone device and have it wired via the IAC driver. Everything was working beautifully up until a couple of days ago when all of a sudden my cellos and basses weren't loading properly. When I open my session everything else loads and when I look at the VE stand alone, the sample patches are there, loaded. I am just not able to hear them played. Upon closing VE and re-opening it a few times, all of a sudden the cellos would be there but the basses were still missing. If I then close VE and re-open it, both are missing again. I then tried the old copying of the application and running two seperate instances of VE and again, everything else loads properly except the cellos and basses. I then decided to just open one VE and load it with strings. The result was the same, no cellos and no basses. The only thing that seems to work and that leads me to believe it has to be something with VE and the samples is when I insert two new instruments and load the exact same cello and bass patches, they work. Although, this takes up even more RAM as I now have two cellos and two basses. Also, when I close out of VE and then re-open it, I'm back to having the same problem... no cellos and no basses. I have checked all connections etc. and have troubleshot the problem to the point where it is obvious to me that there is somthing going on with VE and the cellos and basses as opposed to it being something in Logic. Understanding that files can sometimes get misplaced etc., I optomized my external sample hard drive thinking that maybe those files were just out of place. Nope, still have the problem. Anyone got any ideas and or suggestions? Once again thank you all in advance. Chad

  • Any takers on this one? I'm finding now that every now and then when I launch VE it seems to mix the IAC bus' up so I have to reassign them. Once I reassign them everything seems to be okay but there is always one or two patches that can't be heard even though they're assigned properly. I have also noticed in the library window in Logic that the IAC driver Bus' are not in order and they're not in order within the VE midi preferences window either. Could this be the problem? If so, how can I fix it? Thanks, Chad

  • Hmm .. without seeing your computer it's difficult to say .. but do you perhaps have a different midi channel assigned to the Celli and Bassi. Also, I've doen this before where I inadvertently changed the keyswitch to change articulation .. to change instrument .. so nothing worked :P......................... I would say try to load the VI Standalone .. or as plugin just to check that your Celli and Bassi are working. If they are then it has to be something you've assigned in the VE. I too use the IAC driver to send midi data from Cubase to the VE. It can be tricky sometimes .. but I find it's the midi channels that tend to get confused from time to time.

  • Also ... silly .. but check that you haven't got them muted or soloed on the VE console. I did that once.

  • Thanks for the response. I got it figured out by something you said. While I'm not using multiple midi channels because I am using a digi 002 as my audio interface, some of the VE midi channels were set to Omni instead of them all being set to channel one. I'm not quite sure how that happened but I switched them all back to one and everything has been fine with seven consecutive re-launchings. What an idiot I am! Just goes to show that it doesn't matter how long one has been working with digital technology, it's always the stupidest and easiest thing that's causing the problem. Just over thought it all I guess. Thanks again and hopefully this here forum won't hear from me for a while. Best regards, Chad.

  • hehe .. no worries mate .. we've all done it. You ain't the first and you won't be the last. But I'm glad it's all working for you again.
