  • Newbie Midi problems HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!

    Hello!

I puscased Solostrings a week ago and have now got it installed.

I run Cubase4 and i have problems with this setup.

Maybe many of you think i'm an idiot, but i think i've run into the wall here.

My problem are that i cannot get cubase to record the switching between different preformances when i play a midi file.

I do not know how to get cubase to "learn" when i want to switch from Legato to staccato in a predone midifile.

Am i an idiot or???  I have read the manual forwards and backwards many times, i have also looked at the tutorials x number of times.

    I just cant make this.

when i use a vst called groove agent to recaord drums i just switch the input in cubase and grooveagent writes into cubase midifile.

When i play the VI instruments, they  play only with the legato preformance until i manually switch it. if i push record in cubase of the related midifile and change from legato to staccato i hear the changes but when i play it after, nothing happends with the legato, like i did not record any changes.   Does anybody understand what i'm trying to write here.

I also have troubbles with keyswitches.  i have a 77 keys keyboard and i cannot choose keyswitches.

when i use the velocity to change between legato and staccato preformaces it works but i know this is not the right way to do it because i need the velocity to other things, not to change between legato and staccato.

I cannot find a midi configuration in the preformance tool.

Am i totally lost here. Does anyone understand my problem?

    thanks

    Lasse

  • Firstly assuming that you are using the default keyswitches in your matrix, you don't have to play them; you can draw them in the key editor in Cubase. Secondly you have to know that Cubase displays all notes an octave out. In other words, Cubase tells you a note is C0, when it is really C1.

  • Wow that was fast!

How is this about the key editor in cubase? where do i find this?

Maybe i sound stupid now, but i'm so confused after stressing so much with this,  I know i probably have this right in front of my eyes, but

I hope you could tell me where to find this,  WHere can i see where the default keyswitches in the matrix are.  Is there a folder with this or is this something i have to coose?

    thanks for helping me out

  • I think that you are trying to do too many things at once here. Some of this is a Cubase issue and some is a VI issue. So, in the absence of reading the Cubase manual here is my suggestion:

    •  On the Performance page load a violin matrix into the top slot
    • Load another violin matrix into the second slot
    • Right click the top slot and it will turn orange
    • Play the lowest C on your keyboard
    • then right click the next slot
    • Play the lowest C# on your keyboard

You have now set keyswitches to change between matrices. Try playing something whilst hitting one of these note every now and again. You will see and hear the matrix changing.

Now, this is where you have to be careful. You will find that Cubase calls Middle C "C3", whereas VI correctly names it "C4". therefore when you check the notes that you are playing in Cubase you will find that it gives the wrong name. This can cause confusion with keyswitches.

  • AHHHH!!!!

    Finally i got it!

I knew that it was there,  right before my eyes.

But compared to what i'm used to this was a little tricky.

So now i have to start the long way to get this under my skin so i can make it sound the way it's constructed so sound.

Thanks for having patience with me.

I guess i will be back here when i have questions

  • Glad you got is sorted out. From now on support is £100 per word. [;)]

  • Do you have a xmas %off   offer?

I'm so loaded with money that this is no problem

    [:)]

  • No, the price goes up during the Xmas period for two reasons:

    • People are so busy spending money, they won't notice when a little bit more goes missing.
    • Official support will go on holiday for a few days, making unofficial channels able to command a premium rate.[G]
